In the C&C3 MOD SDK, does anyone know if the Art\Terrain folder is used? I can imagine it is needed to build maps - but maybe it is just included for reference? I have no affinity with maps at all, so I'd be grateful if anyone could tell me about these terrain textures.

It is used if you compile a TerrainTextureAtlas asset

Ehm
You just have to put the folder into your BIG file and add the new textures to the "data\terrain.ini" (Misc.big).
There is no compiling needed!

Do you need the original textures as well, or only the new textures you've just added? I can't find any examples of TerrainTextureAtlas in the CnC3XML folder, though there is a Schema file for it.

TerrainTextureAtlas data is used for maps (compiled maps specifically). The same data seems to be read from the .map file for an uncompiled map.

The XML for it will end up in the map.xml for any map.

It has nothing to do with adding new terrain to the game.
