What free tools should I use for 3d modeling, map making, scripting, and all the other stuff. I'm hoping for someting 10 MB or below.
Also, if it's important, I have Vista and ATI Radeon.

for map editing you should all ready have generals world builder which is installed with the game.

as for 3d modeling i use gmax with the renx downloads to allow you to save the 3d files as .w3d files
(im a novice at generals modding so id wait till one of the more experianced people show up)

For beginners RenX is the best 3D tool.

ok, the BEST tool to use if you want to make models for Generals is GMax with the RenX pluggin, as that is the tool used to actually export the correct model format. It's free, and it's also required. I started out with anim8or, and although it is a good tool, you need to use RenX, and I have become very used to using anim8or.

As for the other thing, scripting and map making is used with the Generals worldbuilder, which I think comes with your game (atleast it did with TFD), and if you meant the coding by scripting, just use notepad for the INIs... and you should probably read up on the tutorials.

So how do I make units? Giving them abilities and upgrades, weapon effects, animations. And how would I make mind-control units?
