You have noticed that you can "hack" your RA2MD.ini to get 1280x1024 resolution, but the pause screen is still at the old resolution and appears too small, so I made this patch, which fixes all 3 pause screens AND the UI bar.

It is done now.

Hope you find this useful!

The biggest resolution I have on my older gaming desktop is 1920 x 1080... in fact, that's the best resolution I have seen as of yet.

Still, I really like that resolution patch as it is thus far...

couldnt you also edit the ship or pcx file in the mix files and make one that fits your ingame resolution instead...

A Samsung SyncMaster 305t+. It's 30" wide. costs about 1500$ (11000 nok)
Max screen resolution of 2560x1600.
GPU is ATi Radon 4890

sigh...~

I used Adobe Photoshop CS4 and it was the best I could do provided with the old screen.

I mean, it's GOTTA be better than nothing, right? (come on DTX, black spots are better?)

The black space is better. I assure you.

The centerpiece is horribly pixelly and looks fuzzy. And the bottom bar has a noticeable copy/paste mark.

in CS4, what upscale algorithm did you use? Try a few different ones other than bicubic.

Agreed, take the visual rape of running higher resolutions.

If photoshop was used correctly, this idea would turn out great, Maybe give it another try.

Well, that is exactly 1280x1024 so it will not work but the quality is very good too... the only reason I would say it is not perfect is that it should be roughly 1109x985 and it is a bit too light compared to the bkgdlg that existed in RA2.mix. Once you stretch the image hard enough it begins to... pixelize...

If you went back over it, smoothed out jagged lines, retouched up the colors on the background pattern, and made sure everything looked sharp, it'd look better.

What about for ppl that don't use 1280x1024? There are lots of different resolutions you can use & that's just one of them. Anyone using a smaller res will have overlapping issues with the background & sidebar, anyone using a higher res will still have the same empty black space.

This is ok for personal use if you use that specific resolution but it's pretty useless for everyone else.

That wouldn't make it less useless.

How is that useless? I think it would be great to have, if he could get the backgrounds looking smooth.

But as Mig said, it would only work for the resolution it was re sized to or above, becuase there is no extra code in the game to so use this shp ONLY on that resolution or above.

yes, which is exactly why you should only use this if you are constantly using 1280x1024 resolution, for the game only reads small, medium and large and not by resolutions...

wouldn't such a change also cause inconsistency problems when playing online, as the mix files between a 1280x1024 and 800x600 player don't have the same size anymore?

The game doesnt seem count that many files when checking compatibility. For example you can have a completely different theme.ini, different graphics like SHPs etc (although I dont know if the amount of frames makes a difference). Sidebars shouldnt cause a problem, especially since the other players never get to see them.

However regarding resolutions of the game itself... whenever I played with any resolution outside the default and tried to join an online game it said "incompatible resolution" as if the resolution was locked.

Some games do have a resolution lock, but only if the host opts into it. If you see a little CRT monitor icon by a game, it's a locked resolution game.

I know, but I mean ANY game. They work fine if I change back to 1024.
