Should the AI build strong or weaker base defences?
Strong. They will hold well against human players, but AI players won't have much chance of destroying each others bases.

Weaker. Humans can more easily overpower an AI base, but AI players also have a better chance of making successful attacks, even destroying each other.

I've been having difficulty balancing the AI base defences. In part I would like them to build very strong defences, but at the same time the stronger defences they build the enemy AI have a very hard time making successful attacks on the base. Currently a hard AI builds about 10 planes (mostly bombers and banshees), 9 artillery, 20 basic infantry (light, grenades, rockets) + some commandos, and alot more component towers and laser turrets than the default TS AI, and a quick response force to protect harvesters. Even the largest AI attack forces can't really get through since the AI can't be made to use human tactics like moving ahead little by little with artillery support. Also I think the infantry defences wear down even largest AI attacks since the AI keeps replenishing the infantry squad as soon as they take losses.

Do you think it's important that the AI can destroy each others? More important than having a strong defence against human players? Any ideas how to balance it for both sides? Atm I'd say it's the infantry thats giving the most problems for the AI, but they also work as a very cheap and effective defence against humans...

I say Strong Defence. I always dislike the fact that in TW and RA3 the AI defeat each other. I want to have the pleasure of destroying the AI damnit #Tongue

I agree, I hate getting halfway through the game only to hear "Player was defeated", then to roll up at the survivors base to find burned out ruins more or less. Also AI defenses in vanilla TS are easy to overwhelm so yea base defenses ftw!

Nah, AI need to be able to defeat each other. I always think it's pretty pathetic when they just cancel each other out, makes for a less real experience. When the AI are actually able to overpower one another it's a lot more engaging.

Use base defence teams to make the AI more effective, defending with units is better anyway.

I agree with OmegaBolt.
Make the AI play more efficiently, when it builds masses of defences it tends to build many of them in irrelevant places anyway.
