I've started working on game modes for D-day, so far I just have the standard battle & unholy alliance modes but I'd like to add lots more.

I have plans for a capture the flag mode where the MCV deploys into an invincible "flag". This could also include some sort of strategic points where you have to capture & defend to get more credits or superweapons that give you access to artillery strikes, paradrops, etc. Could also go as far as to add invincible factories/airfields so you can only build certain types of units if you hold that area.

Or could have a few game modes with variations & another with all, not sure how far to go with this idea tho..?

I've also thought about a tower defence mode, with one player defending & another trying to get to the other side. I have a basic set up in mind, defender needs to hold for a set time & the other would need to get 100 units across the map. Not sure how it would work with the AI tho, I have a few ideas to make it AI friendly but need to test them out.

Anyway I'm also looking for any other random ideas for possible game modes so feel free to post any.

Wars according to years? you are using vehicles and units from across the entirety of 1939-1946? Why not have year based game modes? Like you picky 1939 and you only have vehicles from that year or prior.

Well it's nice too see that someone else likes that idea #Tongue

But yer D-day is already separated into six main "time frames", Pre, Early, Mid, Late, Post & Total. They then each have sub game modes, so there are six different unholy alliance modes etc.

How about a 'co-operative' search and destroy mode where you need to find secret Nazi bunkers and factories which are producing experimental weapons like UFOs etc and destroy them. It could be like a more active survival mode as the factories will be churning out monstrous Nazi weapons and attacking your base/forces (the base could be prefabricated, OR you simply have a command vehicle/tank).

Could get bonuses by destroying concentration camps.

Something where you have to fight the resisance/be the resistance and destroy the army's structures, bridges ect. Resistance barracks would be undefineable from the usual civil structures, resistance fighters from usual civilians. You'd lose money destroying and killing usual civilians and buildings... just a random idea.

For the tower defence mode just set the ai to send it's units to a certain point with special td maps. Same as in Starcraft or Warcraft TDs.

Now that I think about it, with Ares you can play a skirmish game without any AI. So the TD maps can be specially made with only one starting point & a custom AI in the map. The new bounty system would work really well to balance the economy of a TD mode too.

An "attrition" game mode. The faster and the more units you train = slower training times for the enemy. Each kill = more cash.

I don't know how it'd be implemented but I like the idea. Great for massive infantry and tank battles.

I'd like some sort of Attacker vs. Defender mode, with a defined fortress for one player and the other player assaulting. There are a few problems with getting such to work flawlessly, though.

Ah, the old RA2 concept "Siege" game mode. Would be cool to see something like that, it'd be easily possible.

A siege game mode wouldn't be that hard to do. One player starts with a prebuilt fortress (& disabled offensive units) & the other as per normal, they then have to destroy the fortress player before the time runs out.

Not sure about a Normandy siege map tho, couldn't have the attacking players base on the beach. A map with England on one side & France on the other tho would be stupidly scaled XP

Stalingrad, Leningrad, Moscow. You could also have different fictional sieges of different european cities. Ofcourse, I seriously doubt you will manage to recreate those cities 100%, but just sayin'. #Tongue

Actually, the Germans were afraid of it, that's why they took it the other way #Tongue

They did attack a part of the line later, after first going around the main line from Belgium and occupying Paris.

But yeah by then the French lines were cut and things were looking rather bleak for the Republic. It wouldn't be overly fun blasting apart a line of besieged, under equip and somewhat desperate French soldiers lol

One tank? Like one type of tank or like... One tank because that would take forever.

Take and hold missions? Several objectives across the map which need to be held, whoever holds the majority of the objectives for maybe 5 minutes wins. Or air raid missions? Both sides are separated by water with no vehicles (except maybe AA vehicles) and you have to destroy an objective such as a factory or something?

Working on a "randomised" game mode atm, it randomly selects the list of units you can use from all time frames at game start. So you could end up with a post-war light tank & a pre-war heavy etc!

Not sure what to name it tho...?

I HAVE A REALLY GOOD SUGGESTION

A sort of "Horde Mode" Where it can be 2 players (Or more if you wish) where One player gets to build a base and defend it with turrets, units, and artillery from all time-periods and the other player focuses on making a horde of units to raid the opposing base! The second player primarily using infantry and what-not.

There's something similar in MO.
