Subject description: Error - Out of memory.

So I've decided to try playing Ra1, so I installed it from the normal CD (Soviet Cd), it works completely fine, then, I wanted to play the aftermath or counterstrike, I thought TFD had them and installed it, however, each time I run the game it says "ERROR - Out of memory" and then it goes back to desktop.

I've narrowed down the problem and found that MAIN.mix (which is 1Gb in size) is the cause, removing it solves my problem (but I can't even play a skirmish), placing MAIN.mix of the original version (around 400 MB) ends with only the normal game, I only have 1 GB of RAM, I think this is the problem.

Does anyone know how to solve this problem so I can play that ant campaign?.

If you have TFD, did you install the official patches and community patches? I think one of them resolves this error...

One of the community patches removes a bunch of useless things from MAIN.mix, multiple hundred megabytes IIRC.

The 1 GB of RAM shouldn't be causing the problem though, I've run the TFD version of RA1 fine with only 256 MB before. Also, I'm pretty sure the game doesn't load the entire MIX to RAM, only some files inside it that are needed at a certain time.

Ok thanks, I'll look into this later, I could use a link to those community patches though.

All you should need:
http://nyerguds.arsaneus-design.com/cncstuff/installing_tfd.html

On a related note, "out of memory" errors are usually related to corrupted mix files, or failing to read certain files. You never said which Windows version you're running on, but in the case of Vista or Win7, make sure you install as admin, AND make sure you take ownership of all TFD files.

More info on that can be found in the Common Problems thread on the official boards.
