I'm having fun putting the AttachEffect logic to work in D-day, however I'm unable to get the AttachEffect.Animation= to appear below the unit it's affecting. Are AE anims hardcoded to only display on top of the unit?

It appears that somewhere within YR these animations' (not just AE.Anim, but MindControl and EMP too) Layer gets hardcoded (on jumpjets the anim ends up below the unit).

I have already started looking around to dehardcode this but so far couldn't find the exact culprit.

Animations are attached to objects like parachutes are attached. When drawing, the objects Z position is added to the animation's current Z coord. Did you try Flat=yes?

Graion: Animations attached to objects are forced to be placed in the layer Ground. See 424CB0.

I've tried, Flat=yes, Layer=ground & many different ZAdjust= settings.

BTW I also tried Trailer, TrailerAnim, SpawnsParticle & Next in an effort to spawn another anim that could be rendered underneath but none of them worked.

Most of those aren't that useful for AE but SpawnsParticle could be used to make some interesting effects, a virus that spreads from one unit to another via gas clouds etc.

Code:
Flat=yes
Layer=ground
YSortAdjust=-288

This AE anim is drawn under the unit that owns it (an infantry unit, to be specific), but it also has some issues on slopes. While I didn't try to fix it yet, you could still try experimenting with this.

Not much has been resolved but my girlfriend & her family are being very supportive Smile

I'm doing some small bits for D-day to pass the time, mainly just code etc. Speaking of which I'm also unable to make AE work on aircraft? I'm trying to make an AA search light that slows down enemy aircraft, the anim works but the effects don't.

Aircraft speed is handled differently than ground speed (it has been like that since forever, at least RA1 had this distinction, too). AE only modifies ground speed.

it's pretty annoying. In TS aircraft speed doesn't change even if the aircraft got a Speed crate or a Speed veteran bonus.
