Grand Campaign Competition II Results !!
Subject description: are in!
We received three entries for the GCC2. I'll say off the bat that it's much easier to judge them, than to make them, athough both RP and I have resolved to judge these maps with high standards. Unfortunately ^Rampastein couldn't judge due to RL complications.
Every one of the maps showed class-A detail, time, and effort, worthy of spotlights and recognition. But, there can be only one winner!
and that winner is..................
[TiberianFuture]
with "Nightmare in Silver" Tiberian Sun Firestorm map (162.5 points)
TB Rating:75
RP Rating:87.5
Assault a highly secure Cabal facility. Full of surprises, and challenges!
Zero18
with "Defragment" Tiberian Sun Firestorm map (136.5 points)
TB Rating:69
RP Rating:67.5
Find a way to stop the trains! Use your time wisely, Commander.
Agent Z
with "Beyond the Horizon" Red Alert 2 Yuri's Revenge map (112.5 points)
TB Rating:65
RP Rating:47.5
Stop the dirty Capitalists from testing their latest tank development, using limited resources.
Honorable Mention goes to HuskerSix, who began a SP map but was unable to finish in time.
__________
Exact ratings and notes will be given to the authors, and will be included with the GCCII map pack.
We will give authors 1 week to make any updates they deem necessary and PM them to me. At which point I'll assemble them into a downloadable map pack in a new topic. That way, they'll be top-notch quality for the community!
HuskerSix, if you finish this map in 1 week's time, send it to me and I'll include it in the GCCII map pack, and also give you any prizes left over from the contestants.
SPEAKING OF PRIZES
There's a whole slew of prizes. Each contestant will choose up to FOUR games.
Remaining prizes go to HuskerSix, if he finishes his map.
Contestants can talk about which prizes you want, if you want to come to a consensus. Just say "FINAL ANSWER" in your post or PM, and when all games are decided I'll PM you the keycode code/instructions to install.
(Origin games)
Crysis 2 Maximum Edition
Dead Space 3
Medal of Honor (2010)
Mirror's Edge
Sims 3 Starter Pack
Batman: Arkham Asylum (Game of the Year)
(Steam games)
The Lord of the Rings: War in the North
Natural Selection 2
Sanctum: Collection
Sanctum 2

Will there be a more detailed judging summary besides the points themselves or they speak for itself?
Ace work, everyone, I was amazed when I seen these maps (for the record, yes, I tried and failed on all three, funny thing is that on TF's map I progressed the least and on Agent Z's the most) xD. _________________ "If you didn't get angry and mad and frustrated, that means you don't care about the end result, and are doing something wrong." - Greg Kroah-Hartman

How did the hell you failed on our map? I could've swore the map I made was easiest.
And it is possible for me to make series for Operation: Defragment ACT 2 after Operation Defragment ACT 1 when I feel like, but I won't be releasing it soon someday .

I'm not a fan of Origin games, but I'm a big fan of steam games.
I would like to get
Cities in Motion 2
Serious Sam 3: BFE

I couldn't find the shore the MRLSs supposed to hit. I ended up in the middle of a fortified tibfield. _________________ "If you didn't get angry and mad and frustrated, that means you don't care about the end result, and are doing something wrong." - Greg Kroah-Hartman

the full results were PM'd to their respective authors, in case the authors want to make improvements on their maps before they get officially released.
For specifics, feel free to discuss the rating to RP or me via PM to avoid spoilers and such.
Keep in mind we did play each mission as any normal person would, according to each of our styles, then subsequently gave it a thorough look-over in FinalSun/Alert2 etc. We held each map to high standards, and rated as such.
The idea was, if we didn't catch something, how could we expect an average player to catch it?
Granted, if we had more judges on the panel it would have given a more rounded opinion, but we did the best we could, given the lack of volunteers. _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

If you want to discuss the results of your map, Agent Z, hit me up with a PM or something.
I'd like to hear how you intended the mission to go.
Maybe then I could change the rating a bit (if the bugs aren't actually bugs). _________________
I can't see how a competition can be considered completely fair unless the detailed results are made public, honestly. These things should be (and usually are) transparent. QUICK_EDIT

This is so dumb.
Where to begin... is not worth it lets just wait that pathetic week. _________________ Free Tibed!

to be honest...I dont see the point in withholding the full judges comments and individual section ratings about the maps for a week. I mean it's fine you're giving them a week to update their maps before releasing a map pack of them, as with SP mapping you can run into LOTS of issues that it may take a 2nd or 3rd person to even notice. But holding back the detailed ratings/comments doesn't really serve a purpose in that. unless of course you were going to alter the comments based on how the updated maps turn out compared to the ones the results are based off of. _________________ Kalistia Crestland (2)

It's for the sake of spoilers, mostly. It's much more fun for people to play maps with a fresh set of eyes, than to read ahead and know what's coming.
In hindsight it would have been better to hold off on the GMMCII results announcement, and saved that until the map pack was ready.
I've only received one map edit, and don't know whether the other two participants want to submit edits.. I still haven't even heard from [tiberianfuture] or HuskerSix.
I wanted to emphasize the importance of letting the authors edit their maps, since being a participant in the GCC1. The map I submitted had a critical tunnel error, and some other nick nacks that needed improvement, that I didn't catch till after it got judged. So for the GCCII I wanted to afford the authors a chance to improve their maps, based on the feedback received. _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

I only got 2 remakes, so I'm going to plan on releasing the map pack TONIGHT (within the next 5 hours)
Zero18, were you going to update your map?
I gave you the edited map a while ago like on Saturday or Sunday. Check your inbox if you still have it. _________________ Mod Leader and founder of World Domination
Just finished scorching through Nightmare in Silver. What a nightmare indeed. I spent a good 3 hours or so in beating this mission. I'm not into big words right now, so this summary will have to suffice.
WARNING : SPOILERS
Pros:
- The first (scouting) part of the mission is dynamic and fun. Hands down best part of the mission.
- The alarm sequence is very well done! Good job.
- The laser tank was a nice addition.
- Well-built enemy bases, albeit a bit too spread-out for my taste.
- Although I hated it, I have to admit the Ion Storm was a clever way to prevent people from abusing C. Defenders' lack of AA-ability
Cons:
- The terrain could've looked more interesting, even though this is TS we're talking about. On the other hand, I liked the variation between the rocky south and the island chain in the North.
- Same for the ambient lighting.
- The second part of the mission takes wayyyyyyyyyyyyy too long to complete.
- Attacks are repetive. The AI only attacks with cyborgs, Reapers and the new laser tanks. Instead of sending small teams every two minutes, the AI attacks should have more variation and more unpredicability.
- AI attack forces are not actually built, but rather spawn from random locations. Even without production structures.
- Some minor inconsistencies (how come the Ghost isn't detected by the radar? Why's there no Firestorm defence barrier on the South-West side of the main base?)
- You can destroy almost everything in the main base before capturing the Firestorm generator. The AI doesn't defend it, nor does it repair or replace damaged/destroyed buildings.
- Even though they are plain in sight and thus the player can prepare against them, two Core Defenders is too much.
- I get the message "Mission accomplished" every time I succeed/fail in an objective. Might be my build, am I missing something? _________________
