Weapon/Warhead Lighting

I'm creating a weapon version of lightning storm. Everything looks good except that it doesn't darken the sky. Is it possible for weapon/warhead to create superweapon-like lighting? I notice that the newly added Nuke flash feature tho but the lighting is not correct.

AFAIK the nuke flash is the only map wide lighting effect you can call via a normal weapon. You could attach a large negative alpha image to the cloud anim, which could even be made to animate & look like the shadow of clouds fading in & out, of course such an anim would probably make the game lag a lot.    

BTW the lighting for the weather storm is a hack of TS's ion storms which is controlled via map setting.
