NOTE: Windows XP is needed. This will not work on win 2000or older, at all!

Make a shurtcut of the app you want to speed up.
Go to properties and select the "end" of the shurtcut and add tha following

/prefetch:1

if the shurtcot is plased in a " " add this AFTER the "

start the app.
start the app again. Can you feel the differense?
If it doesn't work (gives error) remove the /prefetch:1 line and it will be back to normal.

If this does not work at all, I will post a regestry-fil that will fix the problem.

I have tested this on:
PS CS :did work
PSP X :did work
Voxsel S E III :did work
RA2 YR :did work
MSpaint :didn't work
OS VV 1.75 :did work
OS hva b 1.2 :did work

This "hack" will not increese PREFORMANCE of the app, only the load speed before it starts.
For me it did almoast x4 times the load-speed of PSP X!
Enjoy.

NOTE:
Post the apps you try it one here, so the list can be bigger!
Both work and didn't work must be posted, so other may se the efeckt of this amazing feaure of Win XP.
How it woks: It saves a small file inside "C:\WINDOWS\Prefetch"
Windows loads these files whenyou start the app. Do not be scared about the fak of it saves exra info on your HD, it's very SMALL FILES.
Have fun #Tongue

It should already prefetch by default. I know my XP does.

A simple test.

1. Load a program.
2. Close it.
3. Load it again.

Did it load faster the second time? Of course it did. As Clazzy said, Windows should prefetch by default, and on top of that, most of the program is still in ram anyways. Forcing prefetch shouldn't actually do anything.

It works! If you dont belive me, run a app (CS2 is good, takes some time to load) take the time, add /prefetch:1 and run it again. Restart. Run the app, and take the time on more tie. look at the nubers.
This funktion is a part of XP, I know, but windows has dissabeled it for defferent reasons, most since some computers/apps doesn't suport it. And we all know that windows is for "every man in the street"

If you still dont belive me, go home #Tongue

It's enabled by default and it doesn't matter about the application, it's Windows that entirely does it. I'd assume it's similar to the Linux prelink in that it preloads DLL files that the application needs to load rather than waiting for the application to call them.
