The Official Half-Life 2 Speculations Thread!
Post your speculations about HL2 and what it may have in this thread. Most of us have seen the screens (If not, I'll post the link to the CNN story), and we all know what HL2 represents, so, what do you think Valve's done? Do you think HL2 is going to own, or has Valve's total media blackout turned you off? Do the screens look too photorealistic, or kinda cool? Is it preposterous thinking that Gordon would join the G-Man? Discuss here! QUICK_EDIT
i Read a few articles, so here the first big points :
That will take place on City 17, a metropolis with a look typical Eastern European
There will be two new person, Alyx Vance, a girl who lost his mum in Half Life one in Lambda sector in Black Mesa complex, and Eli (no information, old male)
the story is divided into 12 chapitres, and for one chapitre it will take about four hours
Storyline: there wille be a new race of alien and some of the old alien from XEN will be allied with you !
Weapons: there will be a lot of traditionnal weapons (i have already seen a desert eagle, a shotgun and the claw), new experimental weapons and aliens weapons
HL II will be multiplatforms for modding and that will be more easier to make mods and maps QUICK_EDIT
I've heard some of that, but I'm pretty sure that the two peoples' names are reversed (Eli is the girl and ALyx is the guy who lost his mom) QUICK_EDIT
Even More Half-Life 2 Info
4/28/2003 17:37 PST | Half-Life | by Fragmaster |
Shacknews posted some more collected Half-Life 2 info, some new, some old, some possibly not entirely true.
ALL objects in the game world are affected by the physics
Movement speed of HL will be retained
Drivable vehicles in both single and multiplayer
Engine technology scales based on your system specs
Known locations: City17 in east Europe, a harbor, a jail, the suburbs, a dried up ocean, an icebreaker (large ship)
Multiplayer is important and multiple game modes will be supported
The editor is called 'Hammer' and will be included, sounds like a complete development environment for maps, mods etc.
TF2 will be using the HL2 engine, once they decided to use the HL2 engine they stopped giving information as they didn't want to blow anything relating to it. TF2 will 'arrive soon'.
Of course, Hammer is the same name of the current Half-Life editor (formerly known as Worldcraft), so that's not really a surprise. And it's been established before that TF2, HL2, and Counter-Strike 2 are all using the same engine.
If you haven't seen them already, upcoming issues of PC Gamer, Computer Gaming World, and Computer Games Magazine have Half-Life 2 features. The magazine embargo (which was broken anyway) expired today, and while we're not quite sure when reputable online sites can start posting their previews and better-quality screenshots, we're guessing you may see some pop up by the end of the week.
Supposedly better for a modding platform than HL! By the time HL2 is released, I should have a fairly firm knowledge of C and C++ (I may be taking on too much at once, though, so we'll see), and Banshee does as well, and CC seems to like 3D modding a lot better than RTS modding, so maybe we can see a HL2 mod in the future?
Note: I doubt that HL2 will have CD-Key protection, so Banshee, you can prolly get it as warez, and grab a crack online. QUICK_EDIT
Well, most games don't have CD-Checks like blizzard does. As long as you have a cd-key, you can play. Some games are like blizzard, though, and ban CD keys that are used by more than one person. QUICK_EDIT
Remember Red factor ? the wall can be destroy ! and...... of course half life will contain this feature in his graphic motor ! so in the presentation, the person asked that you will be able to break with a shotgun some wood door ...
Niiiice... I've also been thinking of the physics stuff. If it means what I think it does, this could be pretty big. I mean, you could jump down on someone from the ceiling and snap their neck, or you could push a box into an enemy and knock them over, or you could shoot a button instead of fighting your way to it to press it... Not to mention in a gunfight it'll be a lot cooler. You'll have, like, lamps and chairs flying all over the place from people bumping into or shooting them. QUICK_EDIT
Yea, but only when it was scripted (Most buttons didn't work).
I've been reading the Computer Gaming World preview of HL2, and it's quite amazing what they're doing with this. Zombies will pick up barrels and throw them at you (Again UNSCRIPTED, they do this as tactics), they'll burst through wooden doors and smash things that are in their way (Once again, unscripted), and they'll throw lamps and things through windows and climb through to attack you. In one scene, the CGW guys described a monster chasing Gordon, and when he went into an abandoned building, the monster stuck a camera through the window in the door and looked around, spotted gordon, then blasted the door down (All of this unscripted). It's really quite amazing. QUICK_EDIT
Okay, people, I want you to all know that, september 30, when I vanish for a week, it's because of HL2. I'm considering skipping school to play it QUICK_EDIT
