I had that to, even after I reinstalled several times, it didn't change.
I think it's a problem with the registery as a virus deleted the accounts and I needid to reinstall (works as normal now).

First of all, read this:
http://ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=19756

I know the original purpose of that topic has nothing to do with the I/O Error 1784, but someone mentioned that they were having the same problem and sorted it by running the program on administrator mode.

As far as I could research on google, the error is related to lack of buffer to save the file and it happens with windows that are not properly configured (default buffer is too low?). I have no clue how to solve the problem, as most of the random pages on Google where people talked about it had no clear solution for that either.

If somebody finds a solution for this problem, please, post here. And I'll happily commit a version with a fix.

I've been getting this error too since the latest SHP Builder release, I thought nothing of it though as I normally use CTRL ALT DEL and end process to shut all my programs anyway. Ending the process shuts the program no problem, but it's still annoying that you can't just click close...

Does any of you guys have opened any files recently where the path is bigger than 255 characters?

I think the way the program is saving strings in the config is very suspicious.
