So I've decided to write a novelish length fan fiction based on Red Alert. This is the first bit of chapter 1.

Red Alert
Chapter 1 – Trinity, New Mexico 1949

Robert Harris was an intelligent man, still young and not as wise as his professor, who often looked down on some of his “pointless gadgetry”, however no amount of intelligence could have alerted him to the fact he was about to cause the largest and most devastating war in human history. He had lived through the Second World War himself, he hadn’t fought being still in university, however his father had been a field officer, fairly well respected by the higher ups and loved by his troops. Unfortunately though; he was killed by a German sniper just three months before VE day. Robert visited his grave along with his widowed mother every Sunday after church, how he missed his father, his idol. That was the main reason he had joined the project, an unimaginably ingenious and undeniably crazy project, one that would hopefully bring back his father. Eliminate Hitler, before the war can even begin. He still marvelled at the project today, the sheer complexity; the frequencies, the implications, the scans, readings and even the sheer amount of power required to get this thing working, and of course the brainpower, hundreds of the world’s greatest scientists, led by the single greatest physicist in history; Albert Einstein.

“Stop playing with that thing,” ordered Einstein, irritated that his assistant had taken such an addiction to these moving picture capture things he couldn’t begin to understand, or rather, couldn’t bother to begin to understand.
“I’ve just got to adjust this...” started Robert, but then realised he needn’t bother, the professor was bound to be in a bad mood, he probably hadn’t slept all night, and they had both spent the morning adjusting the machine. Error after error, problem after problem. But after years of work the time was finally coming.
“Get me the sequence calculations. Now!” barked Einstein, causing Robert to jump from his camera. He looked out across the lab, waiting for the calculations to be completed. It was surprisingly small, not much bigger than the average person’s drawing room, the bulk of it was occupied by desks covered with sheets of calculations, reports, reviews and observations. There were several colossal machines that dominated half the room; valve computers. The most advanced in the world outside of the US Military, the university was especially proud of that. And in the far left corner was the device itself, a brass box with rounded edges and a single oscilloscope monitor displaying a violently fluctuating grey line. A machine to the right of Robert buzzed to life, a piece of brittle paper sliding out of it in mechanical jolts. Robert grabbed it and fastened it into his clipboard along with all the other readings, none of which he could make sense of. Einstein took a seat on the only chair in the room, the chronochair as it had been nicknamed by all of the technicians. However it was actually completely ordinary, everything was mounted exteriorly. He handed the clipboard over to Einstein who scribbled down some unreadable jargon and then threw it to a desk at the side.
“I wonder if it will be raining,” muttered the professor.
Robert flicked open some switches, he could hear the energy starting to build, the capacitors heating up, preparing to unleash the tidal wave of energy they were storing.
“Standby,” said Robert, bracing himself, wrapping his hand around the lever, watching the needle in front of him as it steadily approached the green zone. He breathed heavily, thought of his father coming home, and pulled.

Idiot. It's the beginning of RA1 from the perspective of the assistant. Know your classics, boy!

Nice story, the characters had motivation, there was nothing amiss and an enjoyable read. I always wondered who the hell that guy was.

I would have thought you would have known better than to necro dead threads, especially with a comment that provides nothing useful.
