Shame they're not rendered that smooth in YR. Looks like great volumised fun though.

I wish I could get 3D Dot Game Heroes for the PC - it looks like loads of Nostalgia/Olde-Games Reference filled fun.
Voxatron looks interesting too, though I don't actually see what voxels buy the designer in this situation with the increasing strength of inbuilt graphics chips. Unless I'm missing some other important factor?

Speaking of voxels, I've actually seen voxels used in a fair few games from the past - IIRC, along with TS and RA2, Westwood had used voxels in their Bladerunner game (for some objects, I think). There was also the largely forgotten "No Respect", which apparently used voxels for the landscape, which is a fun way of doing land deformation, and adds a lot to keeping things nice and natural looking (this being a time when high poly landscapes were something of a myth).
From what I know of the Build Engine, especially Monolith's "Blood", weapons and health/ammo packs are voxels.... I could go on, but that'd be increasingly offtopic.

Minecraft anyone?
Iirc it uses voxels for everything (which explains the blockyness)...

Bladerunner used a massive voxel engine.

Really? I thought it was just used for some items?

...Then again, its been decades. Blade Runner could have been filled with giant pink exploding dinosaurs and I wouldn't remember.

yes. voxels are not new or unique. its just interesting to seem them being used.

I remember seeing them in Blood and also I recall the RTS maelstrom was using voxel based terrain. I never played it so I am not too sure on that one.
