Dutchy's college project
Subject description: I still can't believe they accepted this xD
So yeah, I'm allowed to remake Doom1 with the UDK as a college project I've got 2 quarters to remake at least the first map of Doom1, and preferable the whole first episode. I don't have any knowledge of the UDK (yet), but that doesn't stop me from trying my damn best QUICK_EDIT

You are insane...
But yea, teachers accept anything as college project and it is up to you to figure out your own limits. Be careful. I already had a lot of trouble because of this kind of thing. QUICK_EDIT

All of Doom I? That's a pretty big undertaking. But AWESOME beyond belief. Best of luck to you. _________________ YR modder/artist, DOOM mapper, aka evanb90

@Banshee: thanks for the advice, but I hope to be able to finish 1 level within 20 weeks
@Omega: most likely models as well. I initially will use some temp models I guess, but in the end I hope to have some models as well.
@EVA: only the first episode (first 10 levels)
@Crimmy: either that, or some sneaky Necron references QUICK_EDIT
UDK is awesome for sure. Just make sure you understand C, since UScript is based heavily on it. _________________ KGR | AT

You're going to keep the extra level? Odds are nobody who will play knows how to get to Military Base, I wouldn't do it just to save time. _________________ Victory! QUICK_EDIT

@Fen: I know C, C++, Java and C#, so I hope I should have enough knowledge to at least understand the basics of UnrealScript
@Volgin: notice the 'first episode'-part, with 10 maps (and not the normal 9 you have without secret). This is of course if I come so far that I have time to make all maps.
@Omega: I either will reuse the originals, or ask the guys from the Classic Doom mod for Doom3 if I can borrow theirs QUICK_EDIT
Did I mention ActionScript? Yeah, you'll need that too. The HUD is done entirely in Scaleform, which is Flash. _________________ KGR | AT

Meh, he said it would be difficult, and now I see why. But this is why it is a R&D project: I researched if it was feasible for a student to recreate a game in this engine. Conclusion: nope (not with my skills at least) QUICK_EDIT
ahhhhh, that Unity. yeah Ive seen that. Matter of fact MonkeyQuest uses it. _________________

UDK > Unity. I think that should stop the discussion right there.
Yeah, I agree with you on that, but if I can't get a damn weapon pickup to supply ammo or a health pickup to supply health after 10 weeks of trying, then I think it is time to perhaps switch engines. After all, it's Research and Development. My research is done: UDK is difficult.
Of course, you may think it isn't that difficult and that I suck at coding or don't try hard enough. Perhaps that is true, but I already see this project as a failure and I don't want to waste anymore time on it then necessary. I have enough other stuff to do, which includes some much more fun stuff then this failure.
I may pick the UDK up again later, but then on my own time, with no deadlines from someone else. QUICK_EDIT
Have you tried googling yet? I found tons of UDK stuff all over. I'm positive people have done what you're looking for already. _________________ KGR | AT

Yep, and all I get is outdated stuff. Seems there was a major update sometime this year, which changed some stuff.
And for some reason I still dunno, all the tutorials I follow don't give me the result that the tutorial say it would give. That is the main reason why I'm so frustrated with the UDK: I can't get stuff to work while I follow a tutorial to the damn letter. QUICK_EDIT
