Sometimes there happen strange problems in online gaming like
-one player can't see chat messages in the lobby of another player
-one player can't see the hosted game of another player
-reconnection errors during a game
-slow and unstable connections causing the game to show the "connection to player lost" screen where it tries to connect again
-slow and lagging gameplay

Here a few tips how you can solve this in most cases
1. disable peer 2 peer in cncnet. This is by default on, but causes more problems than it helps
Thus turn off "use faster peer-to-peer connection".

2. Firewalls and Anti-Virus scanner can slow down the connection. Check if any of these are in active mode and do one of these constant checks every few seconds/minute.
Turn them off or make sure they ignore DTA and its components like cncnet.

3. Check your general connection. An instable WLAN can cause trouble too.

4. try the different launcher settings like "disable backbuffer" to improve performance.

Depending on your distance to the CnCNet server this will cause more lag as the connection will be routed through the CnCNet server instead of directly connecting the players.

To use peer to peer mode port 8054 UDP must be open through all firewalls.

So far i only experienced problems with p2p enabled and not a single player reporting better performance with this turned on.
The sideeffects varied from constant short heavy lag durations every few seconds/minutes to very strange problems like not being able to see other players chat messages or hosted games.

I think a slower but smooth game speed of about 4 is preferable over a game speed of 6 which has a slowdown to speed 2 every 1 minute or even a connection-lost screen and connection re-establishing.

But this has to be tested/set by every player. For those who can play with p2p, they sure can keep it enabled.

From my experience playing C&C, RA and TS on CnCNet enabling peer to peer and having everyone in the game use peer to peer can cause a significant increase in performance if the game runs correctly on all systems.

If people have don't know to to forward a port or have difficulties with peer to peer mode they could try the UPnP tool.
