Subject description: tool to change Buildings on maps into TerrainType objects

Just a quickly slapped together tool to convert buildings into terrain in a batch process, since needed for TI and DTA.

Installation: extract to any folder and start the exe.

Quick guide:
-add to the left the maps (drag and drop or via the button)
-write to the right the buildingIDs that should be now converted into terrain
-press start

the program will open each map, search for a building with one of the specified ID's, remove that building and add a TerrainType object with the same name on the same place as the building.

All the changes are protocoled in a separate txt file (same path/name as mapfile + .txt extension), so you can check/undo them.

Since terraintypes allow only a single object on each cell, there is a checkbox included to replace a terraintype object if the cell got already one.


Note: This is really quickly slapped together and roughly tested. Be sure to backup the mapfiles and also check the results.

Have just converted all TI street lights to terrain objects and everything seems to have worked flawlessly. You can check the results for yourself in the staff update. Smile

Thanks a lot for this, absolutely brilliant. Saved me days of tedious editing.

Hey can you add a second field to allow renaming the objects as well? When converting buildings in RA2 to terrain it often makes sense to use a new naming convention...

yes, did that and a few other improvements already, to make this a "round thing" as i like to say in german (no clue if that phrase works in english too).
Though it's not yet finish.
I think I'll upload a new version tomorrow or during the weekend.

-Update: conversion allows to choose between Terrain->Building and Building->Terrain
-Update: conversion also allows to rename object IDs during conversion

If nothing is entered in the renameID column, the ID is kept.

I just tried this after converting CAURB01-03 to terrain objects, and even though I know precisely which map it is used on (AICHECK can scan all my maps for missing buildings) the program will not update the map?

Objectexchange.exe is in the RA2 dir... but it still shows "operation complete" in the dialog.

where you place the exe doesn't matter.
is your game in c:\program files and has all maps write protected?

When you start the operation, the program will create txt files next to the map, which include a protocol of the done changes. If there is no txt file, there were either no changes done or no write permission to create such a file.

No it's in c:\cc-ra2 and all the maps are editable with notepad++ if I choose (sometimes do) which is how I verify nothing was done.

It just doesn't do anything, nor does it take any time between clicking start and the dialog popping up.

-fixed a bug where the default operation wasn't stored in the list and thus no operation done (only after manually setting the operation type it was stored and used)
