This has been pissing me off for so long now. Made different models thinking the model itself is the problem but I don't even know. Been trying to figure this out since 11 months now, still no idea on how to fix it.
I tried to add more lamps and it made it look worse. When the inf's facing the left side, it looks normal, but the right side is making it look dark. I use CnC_cycles1_01beta for blender. Had no idea who to ask so I post it here instead. (I know I probably posted this in the wrong section)

Here's the cycle that I use if anyone needs it (even though you may have it)

this is because it uses the correct lighting, unlike westwood infantry which had 4 light sources in the scene and made them lit from many different sides.

The sun is in the bottom left corner, thus it's perfectly fine they way you have it.

Only your materials look ugly plain colored and give no highlights like brighter reflections. Thus it all looks flat painted and not really like a well lit 3d model.

The missing ambient occlusion in your lighting is also an issue, which makes the shadows very simple and plain. To fix that, take a look at the latest Blender template. It has an improved lighting setup, with a nice ambient occlusion.

Cycles version is old. use the 2.10 which uses Blender Engine. I'll fix the Cycles one at some point.

Yes LKO is right, the materials lack shine, you need to have shiny edges to create the contrast necessary when scaled so small. This is partly why WW chose such extreme lighting on voxels...

I see.. Thanks for the response, didn't know that ambient lighting was important, and yeah I didn't add any texture cause I mostly run test rendering the models to see how they look when rendered, wasn't much motivated in fully texturing and finishing it, typically learning but eh. I'll try out with actual textures and ambient lighting.

Three human like ones are cyborgs, the large one's a robot suit something I guess?

Alright, I'll give a try on 2.10
