I would also suggest giving it some highly blurred textures, so the thin dark lines don't end in single black voxel, but some nice anti-aliased voxel.
A subtle grey noise texture might be nice too, so it's not the same pure grey color all over the unit.
You can also try a different Voxel Dot Distance in 3ds2vxl, though i got the best results with 0.7 as well.
However, 3ds2vxl is really best used for big and huge voxel only.
