Subject description: How should they be treated?
Reply with quote

My last four EXCEPT.TXT files have had access violations from which I have no idea how to fix them. Two of them are now irrelevant, but I've ben trying to take advice for my latest map and I haven't got a clue what I'm doing wrong. For the most part I haven't touched the layout of the map - just added my own stuff in, including new houses which could be the problem. I'm just wondering what could cause access violations and how, if possible, can they be prevented?

Oh, and if anyone wants to help out, here's the map itself and my last EXCEPT.TXT file.

Adding new houses to multiplayer maps is know to cause crashes, so that is indeed a very likely cause.

i assume the problem is the different order and missing entries of the Houses list
rules.ini
0=GDI
1=Nod
2=Allies
3=Soviet
4=Neutral
5=Special
6=GDI1
7=Nod1
8=GDI2
9=Nod2
10=Allies1
11=Allies2
12=Soviet1
13=Soviet2

in your map
0=GDI
1=Nod
2=Allies
3=Soviet
4=Neutral
5=Special
6=Allies1
7=Soviet1
8=GDI1
9=Nod1
10=GDI2

In Singleplayer maps you first have to include the entire list from rules.ini before you can add new houses

This is an educated guess, but it seems it crashed when getting the owner (house) of an object.

That seemed to be it, but I justwish that houses didn't act like that. Is it possible to have a map with all custom houses and have it work fine?

It's only possible to adjust the modifiers of the existing houses, but you can't add or remove houses.
