What could the problem be this time?
For as much information as ModEnc has, one thing it seems to really lack is internal error information. Yes, it has a handful of obvious known errors, but 90% of all EIPs I receive are neither there or elsewhere on the Internet upon Googling. There are so many unknown/unlisted EIPs, so has anyone tried compiling new errors as they are reported? I think it would probably save several hundreds of posts like this one.
Anywho, this IE pops up just about every skirmish game I do on the latest unstable version of Ares, and based on what the EIP value is, I assume it's somehow related to a weapon, but I can't be sure. I get that the unstable versions are well, unstable, so I want to know if there is an internal problem or just an error in my coding, thanks!
I'm posting three different except.txts all from within the last hour and with the same EIP.
The EIP is 0046A496 every single time. I only guessed a weapon issue because the closest known addresses on ModEnc are weapon related, but maybe the similar number means nothing.
Either way, I haven't done any of those things, at least not since the latest unstable build came out. I wasn't having this crash prior to two weeks ago. Try testing everything you've added since it wasn't giving you these errors, that's the easiest and generally fastest way to find out besides waiting for the few people that might be able to tell you what the error is. Late game skirmish crashes are usually AI related, but if it's a weapon issue then it will happen the moment the weapon is used, and you can force that to happen.
If you really believe it's a weapon, play against specific houses to narrow down if it happens with 1 particularly, or an entire side.
Fortunately, I've come to a few definite conclusions!
- Not an Ares problem. Old versions do not stop the IE
- I then found it was a Soviet problem. It did not happen in matches without Soviet players.
- I did individual country tests and have determined that Iraq is the culprit country.
- It happens with easy, medium, and brutal AIs. So if it is a unit/structure, it is one that even easy Iraq builds (so not a high tier unit). I can narrow it down to a few units/structures now.
Also, another little odd thing I've noticed lately is that radiation has been causing tremendous lag, which never happened before.
As for AICHECK...I'm sure it would help, but I'm literally the only person who hasn't figured out how to use it based on its thread, as it seems no one else has had problems getting it to do anything. This happens when I run it (with all the files in the RA2 directory of course), the Readme only explains what each batch file does, but not how to run them. But then again, I'm sure it's so simple that I should know how already, or maybe I overlooked the thread, idk
While I still don't know exactly where the problem lies, I believe I got. It appears their Mig Invasion support weapon, which has existed for years, is the culprit. I didn't understand how, seeing it never caused crashes before and hasn't been edited in a long time. It became apparent as the cause though when I removed it and stopped getting the error.
However I recalled doing one little change which impacted this SW. There's a sharpnel weapon from the Mig rockets known as [FlakGuyPunch], the Flak Trooper's weapon (it's no longer flak puffs, it's something more suitable for this weapon. Recently I went and rewrote all the weapon ranges, with many of them being much longer than before for balance purposes, and this weapon was one of them.
I'm pretty certain it's the range of the shrapnel weapon that is now causing problems, as it is absurdly long to be used as a shrapnel weapon. Shrapnels only spawn when units are hit, and this targets structures, so it makes sense that it only happened sometimes. I even changed the shrapnel weapon and found no more error! With that said though, I still don't know why exactly its range caused problems, or the exact cause of error.

Ahhh, my theory was wrong. Still happening against Russia too. I have no idea where the problem lies at this point other than something Soviet At this point I'm just gonna constantly save in matches against Soviet and hope for the best.

You should go to the C&C Mod Haven Discord server and ask there. There are people who can tell you where the IE points at but they don't actively follow these forums. _________________
