After 2 years... is there anyone who plays Generals?
Is there anyone who plays Generals online? I'm not talking about the Zero Hour expansion. I'm talking about Generals, just Generals. If you are a happy Generals player, prepare your modem next time you come online, because you'll have to download an update!
EA has recently released the patch 1.8 for Generals for compatibility with the future C&C: The First Decade. So, this answers one of my 15 questions.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"4) Will The First Decade players be able to play the games online with those who own the original games?
This is a critical update that I would like everyone to alert their communities with if possible. Yesterday we released patch version 1.8 for Command & Conquer: Generals, which addresses a critical issue related to Command & Conquer: The First Decade.
Exactly how it reads in the readme file included with the patch:
-Compatibility patch to support multiplayer with C&C The First Decade.
This patch is being released for technical reasons related to the upcoming The First Decade version. Without this patch, people with The First Decade version will be unable to play multiplayer games with people with retail versions. This does not affect Zero Hour in any way at all; this is a Generals specific issue. So next time you log online to play C&C Generals, the patch will automatically install.
We understand the desire for other changes to be included in this patch for Generals; however, for technical reasons and to ensure everyone could play online with the different versions of Generals between The First Decade and the retail version, we absolutely needed to create a quick patch early on.
In other C&C news, we now have official “well-run” boards for all things C&C at the official site for The First Decade. I will be starting to proactively communicate on our boards, so be sure to come by and start some threads!
That's it, people... Happy Generals, if you still play it.. but honestly, Generals sucks without Zero Hour... and even more honestly, if you buy The First Decade that comes with Zero Hour, why would you play Generals online? God must have an answer for these questions, isn't it? QUICK_EDIT
I do have zero hour but it does something very odd: if I don't play it about 2-3 months, it won't play anymore, and it allows me to install it only once, and won't just reinstall at all EA! Can't you just make games that don't crash if you don't want to play them all the time? _________________
EA just wants that you play their games all the time _________________ I use a Unix-based system, that means I'll get laid as often as I have to reboot. QUICK_EDIT
