Watch out for unauthorized mod mirrors!
Subject description: Community theft sucks, specially when the file comes with a virus!
All community mods we've heard are done for free, for the sake of fun of everyone, with a lot of hard effort. Here we had several releases. While some mod leaders prefer to have their mod hosted only on their own site, others doesn't mind, as long as they are informed about it.
Today, I've heard of a site that I prefer to not link here, although you can read about it HERE, that is distributing mods from Revora, C-GEN, SavageWar, Strategy X and other communities without authorization, and the worse, the mods over there comes with virus. Tools like TibEd and FinalAlert with virus are also available there. The YR patch over there is also infected. No PPM material was found over there.
Of course it's an insult for everyone to have their mods mirrored with a virus.
So, avoid these sites, since you cannot rely on their contents, on their commitement to provide the best, updated and safest content for you. If you find a site using unauthorized content, denounce it for the leader(s) from the affected mod(s), tool(s), map(s) or any of those who work on it.
If you are running a site and you wanna host mods, maps and other contents, make sure you have the authorization of those who worked on it. It's always good to recognize people for their hard effort and there is no cost on doing it.
Regarding that site, some people are already contacting their host to close it down. QUICK_EDIT

Well, not infecting everything with viruses and providing the latest versions instead of years-old ones would also be nice. _________________ #renproj:renegadeprojects.com via Matrix - direct link QUICK_EDIT

Umm, I don't think so. And if you can download it, you can upload it (after you've messed with it) anyhow. It's sad to see that people start doing things like this to mod files. It's crazy, but... We're attracting attention. It seems that mods (and thus modding) for C&C games are getting more and more popular, especially with the rather large amount of unfinished mods that have shows high-class quality. QUICK_EDIT
They check the HTTP_REFERER field, which usually has the address of the page you came from. If that field doesn't match the site, boom, access denied. Simple to create, simple to bypass.
Other methods exist, including dynamically generated random URLs, but none are totally reliable. You can't really be sure whether a user is that is downloading the file came from your site or from elsewhere. QUICK_EDIT
In case they have a domain (no subdomain) you can trace them... _________________ I use a Unix-based system, that means I'll get laid as often as I have to reboot. QUICK_EDIT

So you're saying that I cannot trace randomsite.ppmsite.com or mo.cncguild.net because they are subdomains? Wow, good thing nobody told me that cause I just went and did. QUICK_EDIT
