MSN's a fucktard, I uninstalled-reinstalled it after a prompt by the PC that a file was corrup. Enter MSN 7.5....

mabye the firewall in xp block it if u use xp

or another firewall.

if u reinnstall it rember too delete the folder.

and try clean the registry. Use Regsupreme or registryfix or

Deleting the folder makes bugger all difference.

Check the advanced connection settings in msn and make sure nothings set which shouldn't be. Also, if you have IE set up to use a proxy MSN (In my experience) will auto-copy those settings which if you are for example, using an Anonymous Proxy for anything the connection will likely not go through.

Do you have XP? As if you don't , then you can't use version 7.5.

Tools > Options > Connection > Advanced

Delete anything in any of the boxes.

GAIM and Trillian can seem annoying if the only client you use is MSN Messenger.
If you can't get 7.5 working and can't work out why try using the Windows Live Messenger Beta (MSN Messenger 8) with this patch and you can find the Messenger plus Beta version for it (If you use plus) over Here.

OK Carno, are you sure your .NET hasn't fucked up? My .NET fucked up several weeks ago and forced me to do a Product Recovery after Windows stopped working entirely.

How about everyone switch over to Jabber? Easiest way is probably to use Gmail and Google Talk, then we could all communicate over an open instant messaging service that is superior to MSN. Great, eh?
