Subject description: from modding YR
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Effective the first days of September until further notice*, I will retire from modding Yuri's Revenge and all mod projects of which I am leading or participating. Since this could be the end of my modding career for all I know, here's a bio of my modding history for all to see, which I hope you take some time to read(You might wanna get a bag of popcorn or something; I haven't finished typing this but it's getting pretty lengthy.)

*After Marine recruit training I'm getting a computer job and going to San Diego so who knows; I may get back into it.

I've made some good stuff in my three years of modding. From simply making cows go boom to making the most skirmish modes ever in one mod.

My projects, although never completed, will hopefully one day take their place among the ones that are. The most noteworthy of my projects are: Yuri's New Terror: Armageddon; Advance Wars 2: Yuri's Revenge Rising; and Galaga(Working Title). Other projects of which I have played an important role in designing are Star Strike; and The Cold War.

I started YNT:A first, back when all I could do was play around with text files. It was originally based on an idea on paper(about 16 pages, and counting btw), in which the Allies and Yuri fought each other, with the Soviet Union out of the way, and an alien and a mech race were thrown in there somewhere. But those two never made it to the mod. In its earlier stages the mod wasn't called "Armageddon". As my modding abilities grew, so did my mod. I had to get rid of many of the things it had, but much better stuff was added, including over 50 new skirmish modes, thereby obtaining the record for most skirmish modes for a mod. It was mostly a multiplayer add-on, until I revealed the intent of making all-new missions and adding a fourth side- the Terror Troops. The name was inspired by my Micro Machines Military collection. The storyline was never finished but what I have so far is not that bad, honestly.

Next, there was the struggle-from-the-start mod: Advance Wars 2: Yuri's Revenge Rising, announced a year and a half ago. My school friend Black Panther(B.P.) and I decided to make this project, and made a site for it too. later he had computer problems and ended up not having time to work on it, so it was back to being a one-man mod team for me. It got off the ground, but was soon back on the ground. Several of the units and some custom maps were made, but a functional private alpha was never compiled.

Then, there was my assistance with Eva-251's project Star Strike, and later, with Cold War. Sure it was fun making those aircraft. Still got the list of ones yet to be made. But it was obvious that neither of his projects or mine would be finished in time. I procrastinated(hell, we all did #Tongue) and did other stuff, and pretty much quit modding before my time.

Lastly, there was Galaga. Yeah, that insane project to turn a 1980s arcade shoot 'em up into an RTS. Originally conceived as a joke project that got serious. It is only a few months old but I made quite a bit of advancement with it. Even figured out how to get unit upgrades uing specially-coded maps with that project, and made several maps of different planets and even space(those were really cool, they had background stars and galaxies and everything). The storyline was to take place around the story of Galaga: Destination Earth for PS1, and you had to go from planet to planet in the Solar System, clearing out the Galaga infestation. The plot twists and tells of a doomsday device that reveals the changes in motive of the Galaga invaders, and how they secretly built it under the humans' noses. That storyline wasn't finished here either, but about 15 missions were planned out. In a recent alpha test, Eva-251 and I never got it to work, and I'm still not sure why.

So now you know my modding history. I got less than three weeks left here, but it's still too short a time period. Got any comments/questions? Other than "I wasted my time reading THIS!?"

Chielscape, get bent.

Yurisarmy, I can't say I knew you at all, so I'll just say good luck.

I shall continue to check the forums, but not nearly as often. So much to do, so little time...
