The Greek parliament has voted in a new law that effectively bans all forms of gaming, including console, PC, handheld, and cell phone games, in both public and private areas. The law was originally meant to punish gambling establishments, but the law's broad language actually encompasses all forms of electronic gaming. Those caught breaking the law can face up to three months of jail time and a 5,000 euro fine, while repeat offenders can face up to a year in prison and a 50,000 to 75,000 euro fine. Currently, two Internet café owners are scheduled to stand trial on September 10 in a Thessaloníki court for allowing computer games in their establishments.
It's no joke. People were getting ripped off from gambling, so since they were too lazy to directly define the terms of gambling, they just banned em' all
It's on the front page of SCL as well.
The Greek government has enacted a new law that bans all forms of gaming in public and private areas, including those that run on home PCs, handheld machines, gaming consoles, and cell phones. The law was originally meant to punish illegal gambling establishments, but the government has stated that it is "incapable of distinguishing innocuous video games from illegal gambling machines." Thus the law's broad language actually encompasses all forms of electronic gaming.
The law applies equally to tourists that are visiting Greece. Thousands of tourists in Greece are unknowingly facing heavy fines or long terms in prison for owning mobile phones or portable video games. Those caught breaking the law can face up to three months of jail time and a 5,000 euro fine, while repeat offenders can face up to a year in prison and a 50,000 to 75,000 euro fine.
Internet cafes will be allowed to continue to operate, providing no games- playing takes place. If a customer is found to be running any sort of game, including online chess, the cafe owner will be fined and the place closed. Currently, two Internet café owners are scheduled to stand trial on September 10 in a Thessaloníki court for allowing computer games in their establishments.
This ridiculous law is now enacted throughout Greece and thousands of gamers plan to protest at a test case that is to come before the Greek courts next week, in the event that the defendant is convicted. There is nothing like being sent to jail for playing Snake on your cell phone or Solitaire on your computer.
LMFAO, im glad Tony(THE EVIL BASTARD) actually have soem (EXTREAMLY LOOOOW AMOUNT) brains. Boy there government is fucked. _________________ Free Map Editor - Game Requirements - Stucuk.Net QUICK_EDIT
