If the C&C fans boucot EA nothing will change, because there is a mass of Generals, BFME 2, Battlefield 2, FIFA etc. games, which EA produces for the masses and which, in a year or two will probably not be played. QUICK_EDIT

You'll find a lot of people will buy this game, no doubt taking it back the next day, but still buying the game. Its unavoidable.

RA2 has the best graphics of any CnC game with the exception of Tiberium Wars in which has yet to be released. Cartoony has to equal ugly? No one said that. Perhaps you should not be so quick to call people morons and tell them to go fuck themselves when you have no idea what they even mean by it.
Yes, they looked nice but the game seems very bright and cheerful etc. making it seem cartoony, the giant oversized infantry and such only add to this. Coupled with the retardedness that EA turned RA to (Handing sticks of TNT to people, Squids, Dolphins etc.), and a mediocre story (Russia wants revenge and tries to get it... Using mind control! and I find I come to 'Bleh'.
Compare that to the other C&C games, especially TS and see the contrast - TS centres around a dystopian landscape torn apart by an alien organic material which causes mutation in humans, an undying maniac obsessed with the material attempting to embrace the mutation as the next step of evolution and being willing to completely annihilate mankind to do it.
TS is a dark and serious game. RA2 is a fun and cartoonish game. That's all there is to it in my mind.
And I don't really care if they make RA3 or not - I wouldn't really even care if they did do the 'back to the roots' crap (Which they aren't doing for TW despite what you think - they're just making it more like modern day combat, realistic and generals like in order to make sure it sells - hence people complaining about them not sticking to canon') what story could work with RA3? 'OMG SOVIETS RISE AGAIN' God, I hope not.

See, now we're getting somewhere. RA2 was not cartoonish because of it's graphics, but because of the gameplay and mood. That's what I wanted someone to admit.
Now for the other stuff...
Mind Control: The Soviet Union was always suspect of using mind control. EA took something that has been linked with the Soviet Union and put it to good use. In fact it all played out very well until Yuri's revenge.
Squids: This actually isn't to far fetched either, squids are highly intelligent creatures. They would be highly susceptible of mind control if it in reality could work.
Dolphins: It was actually rumored that during the cold war the United States military did use Dolphins to sabotage Soviet Submarines with sonic resignation devices attached to their backs.
See all EA did in RA2 was take rumours of things that happened during the multitude of Soviet involved conflicts and put them to use in their game. Yes I understand that these are all rumors, but they are all rumors associated with the two parties involved. Pretty much eliminating the cartoon factor altogether.
You can still think Yuri's Revenge is cartoony, it took things way to far. I can't even stand that game, and I'm one of the few CnC fanatics that will defend Generals. I just use it cause of it's fancy Skirmish menu. How did we ever live without it? QUICK_EDIT

About the squid..last I checked nobody knew how smart Giant Squid are. I'd love to see your proof of this, honestly. And about dolphins, you shouldnt need ANY equipment to sabotage a submarine. Dont whale songs and dolphin chitter already affect the systems?

I saw the squid thing on a documentary a while back, I don't have any real proof so you can throw it out. But I proved that the Dolphins weren't a dumb choice, and you don't seem to have any quarrels with Mind control.
You know what I'd like to see in RA3? Nikola Tesla's Doomsday device that he was rumored to have designed. According to his biography all his blueprints for all his inventions were confiscated by the CIA when he died. It would be cool if the Soviets got their hands on the plans during the last war and have constructed it for another attempt at revenge... QUICK_EDIT

Yuri's Revenge I thought was good. Yuri's army has potential to become one of the darkest concepts in RA3. Possessed fanatics who were once civilians turning on their former friends, comrades taking arms against each other, mutants, uber weaponry and so on. God I wish this argument was at 4chan, then I could do a one-liner and get away with it.
But, Red Alert II was built in the nice desert hovel in the middle of Nevada we call 'Westwood Studios', while Westwood worked on(butchured and ruined) C&C Renegade, and I BELEIVE E:BFD was being done here, too. RA2 and Ren were developed simultaneously, and probably in the same building by same crew(Only frank I know was involved with both.) After YR, Ren was rushed, lots of the cool crap cut, and we got the shitty FPS C&C we see now.
I miss the Gunboat that got killed by the shore. QUICK_EDIT
@ Cadre - dude, chill out a bit. I haven't saids anything against WS or RA2. I really love that game, it's my first game ever to play, so I'm santimental about it.
EA made RA2 worse. Blaim them. But it was Westwood Studios that did most of the game. So, when you bash someone (EA), say what they did (ztype up things), not that they mdae the entire game. QUICK_EDIT
