Actually, DX10 is massively integrated into Vista and relies on the Vista kernel to work (as is my understanding). It's unlikely that we'll ever see it outside Vista and Vista+1.

They said a similar same thing about Windows and Internet Explorer on one of the Windows versions (don't remember which) some years ago... until some hacker successfully cut the two apart and proved they were lying, and the Windows worked fine without a trace of IE.

Personally, I think more companies are going to follow C&C3's example and simply keep using DX9. After all, a DX10 exclusive game would be Vista exclusive then, and since Vista isn't really all that popular with the better-working XP holding it back, their target audience would decrease significantly.

I suppose we'll find out when DirectX starts getting security holes. If it does then they'll definitely be patched because it's so tightly integrated (apparently) into the OS that any flaw in DX10 would allow direct access to the kernel. You see, it wouldn't be abnormal for a great deal of the core DX code to be patched into the kernel, they did it with WMP, IE and OE code, they all (to my knowledge) have some code directly linked in with the XP kernel.

As usual everyone cant wait to jump on Microsofts back over their new release.

Granted, there is a lot of stuff in Vista Im not happy about, mainly the DRM related nonsense, and the removal of Direct X related audio - Which was to give it its dues, only caused by a rather desirable security feature which is included in Vista.

Then we have the performance, right now, games performance is down, on average somewhere along the lines of 10% in Vista compared with Xp, although some games, ie- Company of Heroes, is showing NO performance decrease in Vista, anyway, this is due by the VAST majority to the DRIVERS, not Microsoft. The EXACT same thing happened when Xp was released - given some time, companies drivers will be refined and matured to intergrate the hardware better with Vista, bringing games performance at LEAST up to the level of Xp, and I am betting a large amount on performance improving, even quite drastically once the drivers get up to date, and games start using some of the deeper level improvements of Vista.

I myself have been using the 64 bit Home Premium Edition of Vista since 3 days after launch, and Ill tell you, I like it, it runs beautifully sweet, granted Im running a very high end system, but Xp required quite a high level of 'up-to dateness' regarding computers on its own release.

Im running Vista on a triple boot at the moment, along with both the 32 and 64 bit editions of Xp pro, personally I have found, after a few days adjusting, that the interface is wonderful, many of the features rather useful and groovy, and that once UAC is disabled, and a few reasonably easy to apply tweaks carried out, it is actually preferrable to Xp.

Right now Im thinking once Video card drivwers have matured enough to close the performance gap with Xp, and M-Audio release 64 bit Vista drivers for my machine, Ill be moving to Vista 64 as my main OS, which at the moment is Xp64.

And thats my 2 cents.

I have it. Thanks to the fact my dad goes to university once a week for a specific course...
(I said YES, but techically, it's because I got it...for FREE. Else I wouldn't buy that piece of a waste of money) I'd rather spend my money on a new gfx card (Geforce 8600 ULTRA) and/or video game.

Anyways, I'm running 64x Vista another HDD. I have 2 main partitions. This one (WinXP) and the other one (Windows Vista)
