[TS] TD Scrin Wreckage
Subject description: I wanted to try the OS Builder
Heres the TD Scrin wreckage converted for your use in Tiberian Sun
This is my first time using OS SHP Builder and I would just like to credit Banshee and Stcuk on making such a great and easy to use program (how things have changed since i first started modding lol)
Well done
P.S. The screenshot did take me longer to make than the converted scrin wreckage
I know, but C&C 64 wasnt made by Westwood, but by Looking Glass - I guess they also didnt know what it exactly was and just thought it was a alien ship... _________________

Kind of a coincidence though isnt it, im sure they had some kind of guidance from WW
Also look at what Nyerguds spotted in the C&C95 PDF manual:
I think it's a spaceship, implented as a kind of private joke but I absolutely sure there were nothing about scrins going on at taht time in WW QUICK_EDIT
Woah, congrats! Maybe you could make it a bit bigger, just so it fits better with the rest of TS? Last edited by Oshog on Wed Feb 28, 2007 1:54 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Aye but they could still have an entire story plotted. I would if I were them, better than realising the game is really popular then not knowing what to do next. QUICK_EDIT
First, if I remember correctly, on the Sega Saturn version of TD, the tooltip that appeared over that piece of wreckage when your cursor was held over it read 'Alien wreckage' or 'Crashed UFO', cant remember which. Is it found on the final Sarijevo map by the way?
And secondly, Im sure I remember reading an interview with one of the founding memebers of Westwood, not long after he had moved to Petro, in which he was saying the original Tiberian Universe storyline was created for the most part, minus the fine detail in its entirety at the inception of TD. Interestingly enough, it also somehow managed to bring the Red Alert timeline into the fray and explain things all in a most lovely manner.
So there ya go. _________________ I am uber. I am teh 3|_17e|\|355

its just a little easter egg. its not a scrin ship and scrin has been used in several games in ini rules and so fourth. scrin never exsited and in cnc 3 the third side isnt scrin but some other alien race. either way i wouldnt use the n64 for an exampe since its nothing ment to be but to make westwood get there pockets fatter. I take it you didnt read the post directly above
Also you say CnC3 has aliens, but... they are different aliens too the ones in TS.. yeah ok

seriously what are you talking about. what other games have used scrin in the "ini rules"
wardeathfun wrote:

But its an alien ship... the aliens where then known as "Scrin" in TS hence it is a scrin alien ship.... oh unless its different aliens which would mean in your theory every C&C game in the tiberian universe had a different set of aliens visiting earth in it!
Smilen's post is correct incase you didnt get my point _________________ QUICK_EDIT
The only thing sadder than fanboys arguing is fanboys arguing and ignoreing the awesome asset in front of them.
Just give it up. People will call it a scrin ship in mods or a crashed orca or whatever they please. Hell, someone is bound to try to make it a nod laser or something.

Do you happen to know any program to emulate that? I got a CD image of a Sega Saturn GDI CD, but I can't play it
I could still look the string though...
(Fun fact... they use normal VQA format on the Sega Saturn version. Even for the intro animation (based on the DOS C&C installation) and the map selection animations. In C&C, all those are composed of WSA animations without sound) _________________ QUICK_EDIT
I have a Sega Saturn and Command and Conquer for it. Actualy that was the first game I bought for it becaus I thought it was the same game as C&C Redalert for PC back then (stupid me but it was a good buy anyway).
One funny thing about the Sega Saturn version is that it has a Password screen instead of save/load game.
One more fun thing is that all music scores on it is in CD format so you can play them on your CD player (IT OWNS!). It also has vocals for some of the music like for "Act on Instinct" (its actually the one that is hidden on the PC version) and "Looks like trouble" (sounds much better)(not same as the one that is hidden on PC version, this one if fixed up)
Another thing is the Cheat Codes the Saturn version has:
1 shot Ion Cannon
1 shot Nuclear Bomb
1 shot Airstrike
5000$ Cash
Build everything (no tech level restriction)
enable bio research lab + visceroid
Orca's get armed with obelisk of light laser (still 5 ammo)
reveal map
http://www.gamewinners.com/SAT/CommandAndConquer.htm
I also like the sidebar much better on the Saturn version: there are like 5 scroll lists that scroll horizontal onstead of the 2 that scroll vertically on PC version. The top one buildings, next one infantry third one vehicles, fourth one aircrafts, 5th one is super weapons. (It has the MS-DOS icons).
There is also the option to hide the sidebar like in the MS-DOS version for PC.
The prolly most funny thing is that the Sega Saturn has a language setting that affects some games. Set the Sega Saturn to Japanese and all units in C&C will talk japanese and the same for german, french, spanish and italian settings.
back ontopic: I dont get any text displayed on the crashed ufo on GDI mission 3 near starting pos in lower left corner QUICK_EDIT
The sega saturn version sounds EXACTLY like the PS1 version of Command & Conquer I used to have (broke the damn CD be stepping on it aargh!). It had all the same features you just listed, djohe.
I can even remember how to get some off the special missions and effects. GOZILLA brought you the japanese voices, CINEMA allowed you to see all the cutscenes, and then there was the one I can't remember for the mission where you need to kill "your former employees"
@SMIFFGIG: yeah I remember that cheat, I never used it, though... _________________
that would be PATSUX where you get 12 commandoes and laser orcas
(sounds different cheat wise saturn in terms of unlock everything to build and the fact visceroids NEVER appear in PS1 version which happened to have horrible MS DOS sidebars ..)
There was also of course COVERTOPS, the "special" PS1 only missions.
Finally Red Alert also had a ore to beer cheat, with the cheat telling you that don't drink, play cnc instead message.
Finally red on PS1 was like a horrible pink =| _________________ QUICK_EDIT
It's not an Alien wreckage, just an aircraft wreckage. There was a beta version of this wreckage that looked like a downed WW2 plane next to a WW2 bridge. This makes me think that TD wasn't orginally planned to happen in '95 and it leads me to think Chriz is actually right. That spaceship thingy was an inside joke between some Westwood employees, nothing really more to it.
Although Westwood did have plans early in '93 to have Aliens in the game. (There's a concept art for an Alien probe that dates to way back in '95, I think) Last edited by Alex06 on Tue Mar 06, 2007 9:35 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

If your refering to the old TD screenshot: its not an "WW2 plane", its an A-10
But I agree, I dont think that the "special thanks" part necessarily refers to something ingame. Or did anyone find a "gravition top" and "The Bright Red" ingame?
At the end, no one can prove what it is. Looks a lot like an Orca, but its called "Alien" in some games versions (but i dont think that was the initial idear behind it, even if WW later decided to changed it).
It just dont look like the TS Scin Ship (ok, the TS ship was build by Nod, but there should be some similarities between both ships). Its also way to small to travel long distances in space....
Some one should ask the Petroglyph guys _________________ Last edited by Stygs on Tue Mar 06, 2007 11:01 pm; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT
Dude, I gotta make that probe thing into infantry! TFA!
Nice craft though, although I don't have TD so I can't mod it...aww. _________________ "Don't beg for things; Do it yourself or you'll never get anything." QUICK_EDIT

uhh...the COVERTOPS code gave you the Covert Operation missions. The special missions were there without any passwords set or anything. _________________
It pretty much proves they planned Tiberian Sun FIRST, but in the end decided to make a prequel before that, prolly because of technological limitations they couldn't overcome yet. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
Sorry about topic revival but I have not tried this until now with my computer (<-- new)

I tried satourne. Ça ne tourne pas -_-
Dont know french but the "Satourne" Emulator dont work for me either.
There is one other Sega Saturn emulator that works quite good for me.
Its name is SSF. The version that works best for me is "Ver0.08 alpha R1" located here: http://www7a.biglobe.ne.jp/%7Ephantasy/ssf/files/index.html
If you want to know why Im using that old version its becaus newer versions dont work with "Sonic 3D" for me
I did a quick test and the C&C for Saturn work with that version (note I have the actual bought CD's, I have not tried with ISO's).
SSF dont require that you download a Sega Saturn Bios but it has very high hardware requirements like AthlonX2 or Pentium4 3GHz or Core2Duo.
Note that it also requires that your CPU has the SSE2 instruction extension. Here is the FAQ for it: http://ssftribute.emuunlim.com/faq.php
This means that you should not use this emulator on computers like Pentium3 or AthlonXP as they dont have SSE2.
They also recommend GF6600GT / Radeon9800 with 128Mb but I dont understand why becaus I ran a diagnostic on my GF6800 while SSF was running and it was not stressed at all and SSF only used 4Mb video memory out of 128Mb when running a 3D level

well since this topic is bumped i realized there was somone quoteing my message.
well, i must say.... that i did read the post... (and yet, i was incorrect, lol. evil ea)
and you ask "what ini files have scrin listed" well..... press Ctrl+F and type scrin and find out, i could say all but hey! i only mod ra2.
and that is a scrin ship, a similar easter egg was planned for Red alert 2 (some people even said IT was in the game, i think its the level where tanya destroys beacon and saves the citizens and you only have so much time)....
i need to play that level! but anyways.... its in the game. and in many other files i was lurking through in red alert 2. infact, i found out that many units in Yuris revenge where planned to be in the original ra2 such as SLAV ,INIT, and many others.
so it is safe to say i was wrong, and probily still wrong. but whatever, for all i know... because im up so early i am probiuly going to be shocked i typed this so do not bother flaming me for i wont know what you are talking about.to this day i still think people hacked my account and made a random topic (like that one time i made a "Merry Xmas" topic before halloween. "Ça tourne" means "it spins" or "it runs" It's a pun.
"Ça ne tourne pas" is the negation of the above statement. As in, it doesn't work :p
Anyway I'm still kinda fuzzy on how to get it working. It doesn't seem to do anything if I just start it and insert the CD, and the readme is in, ehm, japanese.
It seems I still need to set a Saturn and STV (???) BIOS to use, and if I conform the options iut gives the error message "SSF??????????."
I can only assume the question makes were originally japanese characters, but even with my eastern fonts installed, it doesn't display.
[edit]
Now it says "Disk unsuitable for this system"... do you know exactly which settings you've used?
This thing I'm looking at looks more like a CD player than a console BIOS tbh... _________________ QUICK_EDIT
I did not use any settings at all. It worked right out of the ZIP file after I extracted it and put my Saturn CD of Sonic3D or Command and Conquer in my DVD-Drive (no ISO's, I bought them with my Sega Saturn hardware)
what I did in order
1. downloaded SSF_008_alpha_R1.zip
2. extract the zip
3. put/loaded the Sonic3D SaturnCD into my DVD-Drive (Benq DW1640 DVDBurner)
4. Started SSF.exe
5. Set the controls and disabled scanlines while it was running in the Options menu (there you can also set what CD/DVD drive to use if you got several)
6. Played the game (the C&C Videos and Sonic3D videos worked with no problem at all)
I did not need any Saturn BIOS, it worked without any for me (the BIOS line/ST-V lines are blank in the options menu in SSF for me).
You may need to check your area code on the C&C Discs (i got PAL version as I live in Sweden)
And if you want a BIOS these are the ones ive found: http://www.zonesega.com/emulateurs/Bios%20saturn.zip (I never tried them becaus I did not need one)
EDIT: Just tried the US Bios and it looks like the saturn interface like when no disc is loaded/is loaded.
(when you eject the disc you return to the saturn interface and if you reload the disc your able to use the Saturn as a CD-Audio player with some pitch settings and echo settings and some A-B repeat settings.) The BIOS is also the one that controls what language setting the game will be in as I meantioned earlier (<--- works great on C&C for Saturn )(Japanese/Spannish/French/English/German) QUICK_EDIT

I make my 13 year bump on this topic to fulfill a lifelong mystery.
If the original crew ever wanted to retcon it into a Scrin crash, this was their chance.
Never in my life did I expect to see this one resolved.
Even so, I'd love to have heard the conversation as they were deciding among themselves what it should actually look like _________________ The Fall of Hammerfest - Epic Tiberian chain story

There is a remastered tile which is a generic truck
However the original tile in RA1, I could have sworn was a wrecked allied medium tank, but in 'gold' colour (which is the colour allies were during development/beta)
Unfortunately I haven't got access to the gfx to show/compare, so hopefully you know what I'm talking about
I could of course be totally wrong _________________ QUICK_EDIT
