Subject description: Someone managed to decompress the BIG files!
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

So, wanna get ready to mod Command and Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars before the game launchs? Thanks to someone known as kmx, you can do it (Thanks Issvar at EA forums for finding it)!

Many files inside the .BIG files of the demo are compressed. You can extract them with FinalBIG or XCC Utilities. Once you extract it, use the BIG4Decomp to decompress the file.

I'd also like to thank the author of this program to distribute a .DLL that does this dirty job with it. Today I've took a long time of my day to code yet another BIG Viewer and, with this DLL file, I'll be able to decompress these files, since my program is already able to detect when a file is compressed.

Of course, this is not enough. Jonwil has posted a lot of interesting information about what the modding info he found out so far.

In other news, Siberian GRemlim has a fully working string editor for C&C3 and he should be releasing it soon.

Anyway, start your engines and get modding. If you have any doubts or you wanna research all modding aspects of the game with us, use our CnC3 Editing Forums.

.cdata files are .DDS files, as far as people could find out. I'm not sure what are these wnd files yet, but as far as their names shows, something related to the game interface. fxo are the effects with shaders...

Note that the string file (cnc3.str) contains all the mission briefings, unit descriptions and the like from the full version. Read it for amusement. (Or a painful example of how good stuff turns to crap when EA touches it.)
17 missions for GDI, 17 for Nod and 4 for the Aliens. Blah.

(For the record, Apollo showed me that and gave me the .str file.)

(Edited: was counting briefing videos instead of actual missions, bugger.)

Those not afraid of spoilers can get the .str file here (and read some spoilers I posted along with it).

cdata files are encrypted data... EA don't want you to modificate the Demo!
bin are some compressed .dds files
