Patch 1.04 for Command & Conquer 3!
Subject description: Yet another hefty 12mb to download!
RTS As a Sport: This is EALA's main priority on Command & Conquer and they are working daily to get the multiplayer part of the game fixed. So, today, they've launched yet another patch. Here's the details on 1.04:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Version 1.04 Patch Notes - April 5, 2007
=========================
This patch for Command & Conquer 3 Tiberium Wars addresses video playback issues and several multiplayer problems:
Optimizations
· Made further improvements to video playback on low-end Windows XP system configurations.
Bug Fixes
· Fixed an error that caused some players to crash or disconnect while in online lobbies.
· Fixed an error that caused players with semicolon (';'), colon (':'), comma (','), or equal sign ('=') characters in their Online IDs to not be able to see and select options from dropdown menus in online multiplayer lobbies. These characters are no longer permissible in Online IDs.
· Fixed an error that caused players to desync when watching a BattleCast match in which one of the participants disconnected.
Other Fixes
· All online multiplayer game lobbies will now appear properly localized in different languages."
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
And if depends on them, you'll see more patches coming soon. Anyway, the game box says that you need to have at least 6gb in your hard disk to run the game, however, I'd probably add another 1 gb for patches, if I were them . QUICK_EDIT
I like that they're keeping people up to date with smaller patches instead of piling it into one massive one.
And we get fixes quicker, unlike BF2 where people were crying out for fixes to serious problems for months at a time. _________________ Last edited by Daz on Sat Apr 07, 2007 11:23 am; edited 1 time in total QUICK_EDIT

@Crash-king:
IMHO: EA is trying to appropriate (steal) the market opened by Blizzard. In fact, Starcraft and Wacraft 3 already used this "RTS as a Sport" initiative, only that they didn't explicitly state it.
To do so EA, had to do the same what Blizzard does with it's games; continuously patching. As an example the latest patch for SC came out a few moths ago, and it fixed ridiculously rare bugs that could affect multiplay.
My point is that any RTS that is going to be used as a sport, must be fair to every player, this means that a regular patching must be done regularly to eliminate possible exploits, imbalances, and bugs which affect gameplay.
However it seems to me that EA got a bit "exited" about making patches :p
Let's hope, this patching excitement last a long time
@booto:
I guess that EA is going to use the same approach than other companies, making patches contain the previous one, up to a big size, and then start again with small patches, stating that to upgrade to the last version, you must download patch number# before QUICK_EDIT

Who cares? If westwood Appropriated this market nobody would complain. Only the consumer can win if EA hops in on this. It means the companies will be more innovative and competitive. _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
It would be intresting to note how many Software Inspections (http://www.sei.cmu.edu/str/descriptions/inspections_body.html) and what Software Review Process they used to manage the quality of cnc 3. But I must admit, I have played the game a fair amount, and I havn't had too many problems with it. The only major issue I had, was that if I was at a corner of a map and a vehicle was close to a road, if I told the vehicle to go anywhere on the map, it will move down the road and get stuck in the edge of the map (where the road leads out of the map) - had this issue on the 'GDI taking back the Whitehouse' mission. Once the vehicle gets stuck, it won't move anywhere (problem occurred with APCs). QUICK_EDIT

@Desu:
I think that you misunderstood what I said. I was not complaining, in fact I think that is a good thing, as you said, this will force companies to be more competitive and innovative, meaning a better product quality; in other words, cooler, better, and maybe even cheaper computer games QUICK_EDIT
Too True, Mr. Pokey... But they really should of investigated all of these problems by testing the game and all of its capabilities, Properly. QUICK_EDIT
