Subject description: needs suggestions of filters to use

I've got a set of voices for a kgb unit in RA2, but I need to make them sound more consistent with the existing RA2 voices. Does anyone have any experience doing this can can suggest filters to use to achieve this? I've tried filtering out high and low frequencies to simulate a radio transmission, but its still missing something.

These things are beyond me but i suggest that you post one of them as a sample so someone who actually knows alot about these things can add some filtering and then advice you. I suggest that you ask gecko.

My guess would be simulating a radio amplifier somehow. There might be a plugin dedicated to that at www.kvraudio.com

Find attached the first select voice if anyone wants to play about (unedited). I've tried high and low pass filtering which achieves a simulated radio transmission sound, but there must be something else WW did for the full effect.

If you could dig up the CIA voices for me I could try to analyze it. My guess right now is that it's mainly some form of amplification/compression restricted to a certain frequency range.

You mean the secret service infantry? Find the voices attached. If you can come up with a filter set that approximates the WW sound, that would be great. I currently have Adobe Audition or Audacity for audio editing if that gives you an idea of what tools I have to work with.

Well this was fairly simple. You just need to be a lot more aggressive in frequency filtering. About the entire first half should be completely cut off, not just lowered in volume. Then you just play around with fairly powerful compression/limiting to give it more oompfh.

Thats pretty kickass, now all I need to do is work out how to do what you said to do. I can manage the highpass filtering as I understand that (I think), but when you talk about compression/limiting, are you on about dynamic range compression (which I'm guessing is handled by the dynamics VST plugin of audition)? I'm not sure what settings would be considered 'powerful'. Thanks for the continued assistance though, this is very useful stuff.

Edit: Just to give an idea of how little I actually understand this, the total of my skill with audio editing is using the de-noise tool and some crude cutting and pasting. Step by step instructions may be the order of the day. I have read about and understand what high/low pass filtering is and what dynamic range compression is, but have only basic ideas of how to apply them.

Wish I could help, I used to do sounds and voices too, but sadly, MATSONIC's STUPID SITE WON'T LET ME DL MY SOUND DRIVERS, so no sound for me. weeee..... #Mad
If I ever get sound working, I'll report back though.
