I have a problem, you guessed it my C&C3 crashes now I dunno what's wrong, I can get into skirmish and only build 1 building and then it would crash to the desktop... In a campaign it would simply crash when I would hit the play button I'm beginning to think that Vista is causing the problem.

I had an old computer that ran C&C3 fine:
(XP)
1.7 GHz Celeron
370mb RAM
Radeon 9200
HD Requirements were met and etc

Here I have now:
(Vista)
2.8 GHz Pentium D
1 GB Ram
Well, since vista doesn't support Radeon 9200 I can't use it, so I guess the motherboard chipset. The motherboard chipset is similar to my third computer which does run the game.
(Yes, I did update to 1.04)

Any solutions, ideas? Any would be appreciated.

Thanks in advance
CarbonFX

Yeah, I saw on the EA site. This sucks because I just bought this system to replace the one that had 1.7ghz because the motherboard failed...

But the weird thing is it actually loads into the game where you can play, but only for a few seconds before it crashes to the desktop. So I can only assume that it would be Vista's fault because the hardware seems to check out...

Accelerator in Use: Intel(R) 82945G Express Chipset Family

^ Dunno if that would be of some help.

EDIT: Actually after looking around. I think the problem is DX10 when the crash came up it said "Fault Module" or something like that was dx9.dll or similar. So then I checked out and found this:

"Game compatibility

Since Vista has primarily implemented DirectX 10 there are significant compatibility problems with pre-Vista games that run on DirectX 9 or older. See List of Microsoft Vista game compatibility for known game issues. See this list for DirectX 10 games." -Wikipedia

So I think it could be DirectX, I'll see what EA has to say.

Seems I'm not the only one with this problem:

And this is why I'm avoiding Vista for as long as I can...

Like the other person who recommended I should try as NOD and get 5 minutes of game play. I did and yielded the exact same results about 5 minutes of playing and bam same error... Everything runs smoothly, in fact there is no visible frame lagging.

I'm not trying Scrin, I hope EA really fixes this because it will be a big disappointment to me if it's not fixed. Paid 600+ for this machine with one of the main reasons to play C&C3 Confused

I just got a new Dell Laptop with a 2 gig C2D.

They are 64 bit capable but most computer suppliers choose to put the 32 bit version on it.

And it works fine on Vista 32 bit for me Smile

No, Fail.

Dual-booting Vista with XP just opens up vulnerability back in XP back up in Vista, as reported.

Someone clearly didn't read well enough, its a Operating system issue, not a graphics issue.

Now then, ontopic, the problem for Vista is the fact that its lacking in gaming support still, therefore, its just better to use XP over Vista still for any games ( Except those exclusive to Vista. )

And turn the damn shader off, thats most likely the problem.

Wrong!!! I can run it without any problem on my XP Pro X64....
Maybe the problem is Vista related and not 64bit?

I think you must learn to read. Banshee was talking about Vista 32 or 64 bits, not XP Wink

Read before your post, good sir.

Because Banshee said Vista, not XP.

Dual boot Vista Ultimate x86 and x64. No XP at all.

he was asking why it wont work on vista x64, when it does work on XP x64. so.. "learn to read".
even more so because banshee never said "vista"

which is BTW said to be incorrect (-Flyby)
