whoa...well. If its your first time opening max. I highly recommend you get a tutorial on how to navigate and use. anyways

under preferences->viewports->configure Driver-> uncheck Display All Triangle Edges.

Now For each of the viewport windows right-click on the view's name. ie top,perspective... check mark Edged faces and Smooth and Highlights.

Now the reason why it does not look all neat and finished because its just the mesh. Select it and convert it to polygons. it lacks smoothing groups, and the texture materials and probably a UV map.

you most likely need to do this yourself, and apply the correct textures to make it look as you want it to.

pressing M should bring the material editor. or the 4 spheres on the tool bar on top.

although again searching for tutorials on how to do these things is the best way to learn any 3d on your own. especially since it is so much information if your starting out.

Well I hope that helps some what. and gets you in the right direction. -Good luck

It's quite possible that's just how the BF2142 models are set up.

In BFV all the detail levels are together in one file along with the hit boxes, etc and I think that's what you're seeing in the top image.

Also, the texture is probably low quality in the viewport grabs.

To fix this, go to Edit >Preferences >Viewports then click Configure Driver.

Then at the bottom you should see a list of sizes, such as: 64 128 256 512 and you should click the 512 one. Then check the box that says 'Match Bitmap Size as closely as possible.'

Do the same for the options right below that.

Then close max, reopen it, and the texture should look much better.

I don't have Max on this computer, so this is all from memory.

Keep in mind that the damage models, other LODs, are in there as well. You'll have to separate them into individual meshes and get rid of some of the detail. Those are pretty high poly models straight from the game. It's a pain, but it has to be done. One mesh at a time.

Cheers,

Rebelmoon
