In order to celebrate Command & Conquer's 12th Anniversary, Electronic Arts Los Angeles, in an act of madness, has placed the both GDI and Nod CD of Command & Conquer Gold (95) available to download at EA's site. Here's Aaron's "APOC" Kaufman's words on this crazy event:

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Hey everyone,

If you saw my e-mail last night, then you surely know as promised, today we are beginning the 12th anniversary celebration of Command & Conquer, and as any hardcore fan knows, this is the official Birthday of C&C when it launched world-wide on August 31st, 1995. To kick the party off we are starting the celebration with a free ISO download of the legendary game that began it all, Command & Conquer Gold!

This was the “surprise” I mentioned yesterday, the not-so-revolutionary-but-very-cool-for-new-and-old fans alike. We have plenty more planned for the month of September, and I’m certain some of it will come quite unexpectedly.

So, let the party begin! Download C&C GOLD now and keep your eyes peeled on www.commandandconquer.com all month long during September!

http://www.commandandconquer.com/intel/default.aspx?id=61#NewsMain

ENJOY!

APOC"

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

That's really... great! And I'd never expect it from EA. Now, how bout opening the source of the game? I guess we'll need to wait the end of the second decade...

Well.. its a nice thought, even though I have it already in original big-box form and TFD form.

Its just like things at a clothes store. They arrive new.. then they're half-price.. then its 75% off.. then its free when you buy something else #Tongue
Never get to the completely free stage though.. although stuff for 50p isn't far off.

It's impressive to see such thing coming from EA.

iD Software should follow their iniciative too. #Tongue

Now... releasing the source would be just extremely super.

But I think I'd like an Official C&C1 for C&C3 mod better. Very Happy

Nothing new.
This is well known that Tiberium Dawn (ISO, ZIP, etc) can be found on peer-to-peer networks (like BitTorrent).

Tiberium Dawn have not any protection.
(For example if you download YR, you won't connect to online server, because you haven't good serial number, but TD will)

So, this is a fake attempt to do something.
Is it really so difficult to upload ISO image to server?
No, no and no.

I've just actually read the news post on the site, they could have sodding bothered to try and make it work under XP without such an arse on.
Or made it work off a hard drive I know you can mount it with something like Daemon tools, but it just being an entirely PC-side install would've been nice).

It's good to see them doing things like this, but wasn't it abandonware anyway?
Or did TFD mean they had a legal hold over it (the site that had the full download of Red Alert had to remove it when TFD came out)?

Awesome!

But ironically with dosbox 0.72, old dos games seem to be working better then today's games or older windows games...

I have been playing C&C TD (Dos version) and Death Rally over the Internet and LAN without any probs thanks to dosbox's IPX / NULL MODEM feature - simulating it over UDP / IP. Once you understand how it all works, there isn't any probs and it can be easily set up.

Never played Death Rally multiplayer until now, especially over the internet, man it rocks!

Here is me getting owned in a vagabond:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tC0c-KpVqDg
It works (dosbox) perfectly without any jitter during gameplay

Just tried that Dosbox, the mounting is a bit awkward but it works great once you get it going.

The game is not shit. IF this game not be released in old days. U will never be on this forum so stfu. The game is the reason you start hack RA and even TS. U know what I mean.

I think EA do something good now. I like the EA do now so I hope I will see more kickass thing.

I not about Tiberium Dawn, I about EA's release.

dos-box is rather easy to use, but very slow Smile

if you replace DOS4GW stub by DOS32 stub it will work.

Men den største overraskelsen kommer fra EA. I forbindelse med 12 års markeringen for utgivelsen av Command and Conquer (C&C) legger de ut hele spillet gratis. Ingen reklame her, rett og slett gratis.

From a new from a Norwegian forum.

But the biggest surprise was from EA. To connecting to the 12 years mark for publishing the C&C they put the whole game out. without advertising and even free!.

I still haven't managed to download it.
Yesterday it was giving me 20 hour download times (I can normally get a 1.2gb demo in a 4 hours or so), today I managed to download 50mb before it gave me an error.

Yeah, it was a good move, they won't loose anything but they pleased the fans, and possibly made some new fans get interested in the original game.
Anyways, I'm quite happy since I can play TD again #Tongue. Also I didn't experience problems while downloading, though the download took much more time than TW's demo (Demo 4 hrs app, TD more than 8 hrs); does that mean that more people was interested in this old game than in TW? Laughing

Got it eventually.
Much easier to run than the DOS version.

DOS C&C also works when ran through the little tool called VDMSound. There's a guide on my site.

DOSbox is better for running the DOS version.

no, you shouldn't use DOS-BOX for C&C.
NTVDM gives a real speed and I never have any problems with it.
If it don't work, install QEMU with FreeDOS image.

Was quite happy about this since the German dub is subpar.
