Which game is better? I play C&C3, and the funness of it isn't really there. The campaign of it was alright, but the replayablity of it isn't anywhere near that of say... YR. The way the game plays online doesn't please me either. I like the one base set up, and not really having to worry about resources (but I still think resources should be there), giving a little bit of stratagy to the game in respect to resources, but in C&C3 the entire game you seem to focus more on getting money fast and building refineries faster. Two refineries were the most one would ever build, not like 5. (command and conquer 3 seems more like starcraft than like a command and conquer game). The units are fine, although stratagy seems to focus more on getting a bunch of the top teir unit and attacking head on rathering than employing different stratagies. There are way to many mammy and tripod spammers. I'm just wondering, is Supreme Commander a good alternative?

All strategy games end up with spammers or spamming.

Go play a FPS, seriously.

don't expect helpfull responses from most people here... to much arrogance. Anyway I've looked at sup-com myself and heard that the sides are very symmetrical IE units look different but they all function the same way. You are correct about cnc3 it is boring as hell online! I suggest you download the World in Conflict demo. Its a somewhat unique strategy game that takes place in the late 80's. You don't build bases or resources but you are given a set amount of credit to purchase various reinforcements. Its really fun actually.

It depends what you like, and what kind of pc you have. If you like C&C and you have a rather good pc, you choose TW. If you have a monster pc, and you like Total Anihilation, you play Supreme Commander Laughing

Yeah Dutchygamer is correct but it does not require a monster PC, Supreme Commander has higher computer requirements like a GeForce6800 or Radeon X800 and a IntelCore2Duo 2.0GHz CPU and 2Gb of RAM (runs like crap on 1Gb) than C&C3 that runs on all CPU's and down to like a ATi Radeon 9700. Supreme Commander also takes advantage of Quad Core CPU's.

I prefere Supreme Commander over C&C3:TW but that may be becaus I dont like Electronic Arts view on the Command and Conquer series Laughing

If your looking for a game that is easy to mod Supreme Commander might not be the easiest becaus you need to know the LUA programming language. However Supreme Commander was moddable out of the box compared to C&C3.

The .SCD files are just zip archives that are uncompressed and renamed. The .LUA files can be edited with Wordpad or Notepad. You can have multiple mods installed at the same time (sometimes they might conflict). You also dont need to compile your mods in supreme commander, works much in the same way as for C&C Generals.

The graphics in SupCom might be a little worse (not as much different enviroments like in C&C3 with all its highly detailed cities) but it stresses the Graphics Card more than C&C3 (The Shiled Generators are cool! specially when modded)

The storyline in Supreme Commander, OOPS you have to find out yourself, did not find any flaws in it myself.

There is also a Standalone Expansion comming out for Supreme Commander (does not require Supreme Commander), think it was next year?

One last thing on moddability, their forums are great, even the developers help you mod the game, the game is totaly meant to be modded compared to C&C3.

Or you can check out SunAge. I've been to the prerelease party and got to play it. Suffice to say, I like it better than SupCom. It will come out on November 16th as a mid-price game (€30 euros in Europe).

Here's my personal tagline for SunAge:
SunAge (2D RTS): It's the gameplay, stupid!

... why does alexander stick around here?

anyways, I find Supreme Commander a very good game in terms of replayability.. You can use many different tactics, such as turtling and building up a huge attack, or you can hurry and scout the place out right after getting to tech three then building a tech 3 artillery and annihilating the enemy's base, or have the artillery target the enemy commander in Slayer mode.

So far:

Graphics: C&C3 > SupCom
Replayability: SupCom > C&C3
Strategy Possibilities: SupCom > C&C3

how does base building go forth in SupCom? From what I've read, theres the big guy who builds the base, and there are two types of resources; energy and mass. So like, that mean like power plants and oil derecks? The presence of resources makes sense to me, but the total focus of gethering resources rather than the battle does not.

Supreme Commander and C&C 3 are very different kinds of RTSs.
C&C3 is very fast and tactical, while Supreme Commander is massive and epic.

If you liked TS more than Generals, play Supreme Commander. If you preferred Generals, then C&C 3's you're best bet.

I've played Total Annihilation, and I've played CnC95, RA95, TS, RA2/YR, and Total Annihilation has some very unique gameplay.

If you're looking for a change, I recommend trying Total Annihilation then seeing how different it is from SupCom.

If you want epic, get StarCraft. XD Or SunAge, when it comes out.

I agree with DeathRay2K and daTSchikinhed what game to choose.

DaFool the basebuilding and resource system works like this.

Note it was some time since I last played Supreme Commander so correct me if im wrong here.

You start with a ACU (Armored Command Unit) works like a Dozer? in generals but has much more functions and is much more important (you may lose if its destroyed). It can also be described as the builder units in Starcraft but you can only have one. The ACU is used for building and combating, it may also harvest trees and rocks and reclaim(sell) & repair buildings.

From the "forgot its name (War Factory/Naval Yard and Airpad)" you can build Engineers, these can Build, repair, sell and gather rocks/tress.

The techlevel system woks in 3 stages. You start at tech level 1 and upgrade your way up to the techlevel 3 with the help of ACU and (War Factory, Naval Yard and Airpad). From a TL1 War Factory you can build TL1 Engineers, The warfactory can also be upgraded to the next techlevel so that you can build a TL2 Engineers that can build TL2 buildings and when the factory has reached TL2 you may upgrade it to TL3 and build TL3 Engineers that can build TL3 buildings and experimental units.
The same applies to the ACU, it can be upgraded to TL2 and then TL3 to build TL2 and TL3 buildings (also Experimental units on TL3).

The resource system is that with a ACU/Enginners you build, lets call the Mass Extractors ---> Oil Derricks, These you build on Mass Deposits. There are multiple mass deposits on the map much like the Supply Depos in C&C Generals. They can also be upgraded to TL2 and TL3 to gather Mass faster. You also need to buld Mass Storage (say hello to the Silo system from the C&C Games Laughing )

The power system works like this: Drain and Charge. A powerplant has a capacity and if drained and there is no drain it will charge up to its maximum capacity (Not good at explaining this realy, Just play the game Laughing ). You can also build Energy Storage (Batteries big as buildings LOL)(Silos that store Energy)

Super weapons: This would be the nuclear missiles, you can also build antinuke missiles from another silo to shoot down the nukes. I also count Experimental Units as superweapons.

Defence/Base Artillery: Antinukes, Shields (TL2-TL3), Gunturrets, Anti Tactical Missile silos, Tatical Missile Silos (non nuclear). And the most dangerous would be the TL3 Artillery buildings and that can fire across half the map (depending on map size) can cause havok and devastation.
