Concept Art Section.
but I have been thinking that maybe PPM. should hold a concept art section? I was inspired from ConceptArt.org. and Moddb.com and seeing the few concept art and idea threads.
I know mod-specific art would fall into their own respective forums, but everything else kinda ends up dumped in the media hut...but I think concept art should be treated just like any other game asset since it is what these types of media help inspire upcoming mods or voxel/.shp artists..
It would be in the best interest to see an organized section for the rough process in creating voxels, shps, and maps. and let others know how to approach building assets, animation, design characters/vehicles and possibly inspire new mods.
Also it would serve to aid people sharping their drawing/artistic skills with links to tutorials, online resources and offering critique of their work. and a place to showcase artwork. I know a few people here hold DeviantArt accounts. so its not only a few are talented.
It also serve as a launching point for those who wish to continue their career in the art industry. Getting people familiar with industry related work flow (pre-production,production,post-production), topics and also offer a place for spotlight contests such as Creature of the Week, Tank of the Week...... etc (inspired by ConceptArt.org)
to continue to build perfect mods and a better community.
What does PPM think? _________________ Delirium.. QUICK_EDIT
yea. I believe there is a 3d Modeling section. I was aiming more for hand drawn images..sketches, storyboards..linetest for animation. proof-of-concept..and Works in progress etc
but I can see where 3d images can be of value. detailing how they were made, almost like a mini-tutorial in their process of creation. from sketch to how it was modeled...(box,strip,patch..etc) _________________ Delirium.. QUICK_EDIT
@DonutArnold:...didnt seem impressed. I just was wondering if you had any ideas to add to make it better....Free poptarts for each post?
of course digital art is fine. lol. just anything that inspires voxels and ingame sprites.
Its really a place for people to share their art and document their process
things like backgrounds, storyboards, character sketches..etc. and share how they made it and the process they went through. like what brushes did they use, layer styles..etc. did they run into problems that others might run into and find solutions? What did they find in their research that inspired the artwork..etc.
yea. media hut is fine but it would be better organized to add a subtopic as Dutchygamer mention. just like voxel forum..or shp. sorry if I confused anyone on what exactly what I was suggesting.
That way people wouldn't have to shift through myriad topics..and it provides easy access for topics pertaining to concept art and how to approach it. with stickied tutorials and resources and concept art related contests like. "Tiberium of the Week" or "Cyborg of the Week" or something similar? _________________ Delirium.. QUICK_EDIT
A concept art section would in effect be a general art section.
I could draw/paint/sculpt literally anything and justify it as concept art for something.
I would imagine this is why there isn't one, that and the fact that concept art threads are quite rare.
Plus the PPM subforums all require that a downloadable product be included in the thread.
I admire the in-depth discussion side to the idea, but PPM is a modding site, not a games industry site. There are very, very few cases where a mod production can be compared to an actual game production.
It might aswell just all go in the Media Hut central forum. _________________ QUICK_EDIT
not necessarily Daz, yes its open to just about any media format but still it has to follow a specific format or intention. (props, model sheet, expressions etc). rather than random sigs or simply fan art.
Downloads well the image is attached. isn't that enough for a download? plus if it was intended to be created into a voxel or 3d drawing one can post the model sheet or references for anyone who wishes to create the model.
modding still follows the same basic steps as making a game. pre-production,production and post...sometimes not as organized. its just an effort for people to learn and inspire them to become aware of better methods and the resources that are out there to help them.
anyways. I didn't mean to argue. just a suggestion. its up to Banshee to decide if it gets made.
I will use this is an possibility to maybe create and maybe organize a concept art contests. _________________ Delirium.. QUICK_EDIT
