I use anim8or, but is there anything better? I saw that there is "blender" that is free too. Are they comparable? Anim8or is working fine for me, all I need to be able to do is make low quality figures that can be transformed into .shps. So anyone have some insight?

the 3d program I use is 3dcanvas. Once I get a lot of freetime I'll try Blender. If you can get 3dsmax (not free though) running on your PC then you wont need anything else.

Blender should be good, it has a lot of good tutorials that you can check out as well.

Personally though I didn't understand Blender too well, but others have found that it works nicely

Free version of the Cinema 4D R6 exists. Cinema4D has intuitive control.

Get 3dsMax from those nice websites and all your problems will go away.

Blender is good too.

You mean a haxxed version? #Tongue, I'd say blender, but I personally like 3dsmax better.

I remember what 3D max has an unlimited trial version (a.k.a. old version they don't sell) for free.

Then again, I use anim8or (Which is great way to learn on how to use those programs, although it sucks at texturing).

Blender is the most powerful and flexible freeware 3D modeling suite.

It is only behind Maya and 3DSMax in terms of mainstream adoption, and boasts features that even they do not yet have. Being open source, it is updated regularly and communicates more with community.

Now, it has a steep learning curve, but use some tutorials and after that any other program will be a cakewalk.

Much of the learning curve of blender if you already have a good idea of how to model is just getting used to the interface and actually moving around and editing stuff. The interface does stray a lot further from the standard windows style layout than any other program I've yet used, but it does the job well and you can get professional level results out of it once you get used to it (and are good at modeling).
