PPM RA2 Beta Archives:

They completly took this out?? The sidebar image even shows them zig-zag linking. Is it possible to hack back in (ie RockPatch2)?

Not...fair...

Yeah, i like it too. In my opinion, just about everything looks better in the Beta version of RA2... Hence why i'm so excited about BrianPrimes, mod. But i'm not sure as too why they took it out... It's probobly just got somethign to do with the whole Lighting thing. They payed less attention to the lighting in RA2 (as you can tell by comparing the TS Light posts to the RA2 Light posts). Meh, i don't know, just an assumption.

If I remember correctly, No.

Laughing

Prisms do link? Must be a setting that limits them to link with only a few?

I Think what he is refering too is that they all link up. I've never seen more than a maximum of 4 Prism towers link up together. Confused I'm confused now, argh. Rolling Eyes

You are debating two different things. Currently, up to eight prisms can link up to a single tower, and that tower gets *1.5 damage for each link, but it can no longer function as a support beam to another tower. In the beta, supported prisms could seemingly support other prisms in a chain, which is currently unachievable.

Well, he's sorta right, you CAN up the amount of prism towers that link, and the range they link at.

Also, it is possible for PD to put it into RP2, though I doubt he will, just need to do a sort of, if tower A has support by tower B;C;D, firepower of tower E is raised 1.5;2.0;2.5 and it can go in a big cycle. Rangefinding may be an issue, which may be why it was cut out. See not so hard...if I knew ASM I'd do it, easy.
But enough of that coding jibber-jabber...

EDIT: Wait, I'm gonna test a theory I have...

Prism towers get funky rof/availability for fire issues from linking as is. The reason the feature was removed (or toned down, depending on your outlook) was likely because it made multi-directional attacks completely negate the defense grid.

Also, it may never have been a feature. A lot of the advanced lighting, explosion lighting and whatnot on the very early screenshots is faked. The White House one looks a little wonky with the one apoc exploding. The second one looks much more genuine, but at that position, the out towers could simply be feeding the bottom one directly, and just because of where the beams pass, it looks like a multi-link.

Might this have something to do with the failure of the warhead in custom multiplayer inis?
