I just got a new comp.

It's an acer
3g of ram
2 hard drives, 250g each
AMD 64x2 processor
ATI radeon x1250 (integrated)
and it came with a 19inch wide screen monitor
Vista

It works fine, and vista is surprisingly fast on it. (although I changed it to look that classic 95' look). I was also suprised that it can run supcom albeit on low and slowly. It runs warcraft 3 and generals on high very fast. The only problems I have with it is that my modding programs are running a little funky, error messages whenever I click something. Amin8or doesn't work at all.

Does Blender work well with Vista?

3GB ram... not the best of choices.
You should always try to go with either 2gb or 4gb.
Get another 2gb stick, they're not expensive.

well, I got a job, worked hard, and got paid.

whats the logical explanation of why 3gb of ram is a bad choice? I understand that more is better, but is it nessessary? Does it have something to do with why everything with comps seem to be 1 2 4 8 16 32 64 128 256 512... 1...?

Styledatol there is nothing wrong with 3Gb RAM (3072Mb) as long its set in dual channel mode (for dual channel it must be 1Gb+512MB in channel1 & 1Gb+512Mb in channel2). And why the heck would he want less memory that he already has that is idiotic!
Read http://www.ppmsite.com/forum/viewtopic.php?t=16822 again please and you may understand why he did not get 4Gb of RAM.

DaFool dont listen to Styledatol Laughing

Its better with 3Gb than with 2Gb (I just hope the developer of your computer was smart enough to give you dual channel Laughing )

And if your curious and dont know anything about your own computer and want to check if you have dual channel use CPU-Z that you can get here: http://www.cpuid.com or here: http://filehippo.com/download_cpuz or here http://www.techpowerup.com/downloads/862/CPU-Z_v1.42.html

Still, it will work best with all the RAM chips being the same brand, size, speed, whatever.

I'd be going for 4, simply 'cause 4 is 4 and 3 is 3... dunno, 3 looks stupid, and 3G isn't a power of 2.

pd your looking at the numbers too much dude Laughing

When its a prebuilt computer the memory modules most of the time if it its not some complete moron who built the computer is rated at the same speed, brand and whatever. Also the Chipset/CPU Memory controller dont care if its different sizes. They still work at the same speed (except for the stuff with single and dual channel, see futher explanation in my previous post)
