phal.vxl?
Hello, I'm new here. Anywho, I was looking through the mix files of RA2, and I found a unit that I have no clue what so ever what it is supposed to be. All I know, is that the file is called phal.vxl, and I've no clue what it's purpose was going to be. Could it be the XComet unit they were planning on putting in, but never got around to it due to EA?

So this is another one of the hidden voxels...the FORTRESS.vxl is one of the more famous ones. the XComet is supposed to fire CometFragment and TeslaFragment I think...not sure =/ _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Nobody ever said it was a hovering Chrono or Phase tank. It was just assumed by DeeZire and everybody calls it a chronotank _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
So that means that this is a mystery unit basically... Could be neat to use in some mods though, with whatever function you want to have with it. QUICK_EDIT
It looks a bit like the Harkonnen Missile Tank to me...lol. It looks pretty nice though. No cameos _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
Wasn't XComet just a dummy for the Prism fragment weapon or something like that?
Yes. It was never meant to be an actual unit, just a hack for cluster weapons, like the weedguy.
Specifically, it was just named such because it was a placeholder for the meteor clusters in the meteor storm effect on some TS/FS maps. They broke into smaller pieces. The name was just never changed throughout the games, although it is interesting to see new people creating elaborate backstories for just simple naming convention quirks.
Like the stories about how the conscripts could get US made carbines or whatnot.
Also, it's the Phallus tank. It calls in George Zimmer much like Boris calls in MiGs, and the man just beats other units to death with his potent palpatating phallus. It has a secondary anti-air dildo launcher. _________________
I found something named phalicon.shp, I presume it's the cameo...and I extracted a lot of other stuff from the mixes...and a very unlikely logo. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

Another piece of excluded gold(just like the ICBM cameo placeholder in TS) _________________ Comcast: Yo dawg we herd yo were downloading, so we put fail in yo modem so yo cant download while yo failin! QUICK_EDIT
Well, consdiering how it looks, it's hard to tell what it is.
It is reminicent of the prerelease Corkscrew Transport, so it might have been an amphibious missile launcher. In fact, I'm going to go with that. Corkscrew Missile Launcher. QUICK_EDIT
Yea, you're right. The sovvie's dreadnoughts were accompanied by some boat that has a fan/turbine behind it, and a rotating turret firing dread missiles if I remember... _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

That's the Hydrofoil, the one the Sea Scorpion replaced (the voxel is fairly similar, it just lacks the turbines and the missiles are replaced with the flack-pop gun). Soviets were more missile-based faction in the beginning stages of RA2. _________________
Thanks to EA for ruining it, eh? Guessed the sov's weren't too happy being high-tech _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

The Soviets weren't meant to be high tech probably to fit with the Cold War established (and RA fueled) idea that Russians are big and stupid.
Quite funny, though, and makes more sense for the S.U. to use flak, especially since the AA cannon in RA is a ground based Zsu-XX turret. _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
Instead the allies should be SAM-ing and the Reds AA Gunning. Guess they were...bored? _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT

In Red Alert, Soviets were a high-tech faction. They used U2 spy-planes (which is US technology ), Tesla coils/tanks, Mutually Assured Destruction tanks, cyborgs, fighter jets, Subs armed with SCUDs, and the Soviets were the first ones to create the atomic bomb in RA fiction.
Ironically, the Allies were less high-tech. Excluding the Chronosphere and Gap Generator. _________________
it was a chrono tank, if i'm not mistake, i saw it in mooman's rules awhile ago. _________________ Please, read the signature rules of the forum. QUICK_EDIT
Repeat after me, kids: "MooMan did not create this voxel. MooMan just used an existing but unused voxel. That voxel's original purpose has not been disclosed by Westwood. Simply because MooMan used it as a chrono tank doesn to mean it was originally intended to be that. And since DCoder was kind enough to explain this mind-numbingly obvious sequence of thoughts without setting me on fire, I will give him all my money tomorrow." QUICK_EDIT
hey wait a minute.... thats the chrono tank from moomans rules jk

Ok, can we just please close this topic? All I wanted to know was what it's purpose was going to be in the game, and you have all given some nice theories. Thank you, and please, lock this topic before more spam enters it >< QUICK_EDIT

Not a U2. Stop referring to Westwood's shit ini names, they mean nothing. The sprite is a MiG 1.44 testbed aircraft(built by the Mikoyan fighter corporation as a testbed for designing future MiG craft to compete with things like the Eurofighter.), which, is in Generals. The MiG in RA is also a real fighter, The MiG-27 Flogger-D.
(Inb4/20 people post pics of a MiG-29 Fulcrum.) _________________ PPM's Reichstrollfuherer, 236th Trollenparties brigade. QUICK_EDIT
I think this'll be locked, nothing really needs adding to this topic.
Yeah phal.vxl gets used as Chrono Tank a lot in mods due to resemblances. Nobody really knows why it's there, they're just unused assets people play around with. _________________
