Don't laugh, I know it sucks.
This is literally the first time I made an actual thing in 3dsmax, other than teapots and giant donuts..

I used to draw these things all the time back in middle/high school, I figured it'd be fairly easy to model.
I even made one out of legos once, but that's loooong gone. (maybe I shold make it again, for old time's sake #Tongue )

now #Tongue
I don't know anything from a 3d model, so I can't value it, but it seems that this talent has a future #Tongue

It's not bad. Keep practicing though, it would be nice to have another 3D Modeler in the community. Smile

yea its not bad for an early model..mine was horrible...XD

Seems you got a good grasp at manipulating primitives, then work your way up into heavier subdivision modeling..

This is my 1st ever most pitiful model I made..as I first started out Max. The teacher...she was the human version of the Max Help File.

http://fc.deviantart.com/fs9/i/2006/026/6/9/Robot_by_akult.jpg

Laughing..damn I still hate it...>_>....*Delete*

It is not the end result when your learning its the process. That right there is more important..

Don't stress the end product if you barely started learning the UI. Modeling principles transcend into all programs..

I think this model will look much better in a Render.

But for a first model, Very good start, keep it up!

Ickus, your first model was actually quite likeable idea-wise. Perhaps a remake?

Team Black, the shape is very simplistic. But you've got the hang of it, so now it's just a matter of time, until you get better. Keep practicing bro Smile

Lol thanks. Possibly the concept was something this. I drew it in while in High School..

Cyber_Vamp

The red helmet was suppose to be a stahlhelm..but failed. and ended up looking like a malformed WWI doughboy helmet.

anyways TB good luck. also get familiar with the material editor, hotkey is M. you don't have to model out everything. Wink

you can create your own derivations, but use the actual image. I have to decline such usage.
Spawn? oh..damn didn't even think of that when I created it. I have earlier versions of it as well..it originally was red.

Oh, ok. I'll try to use something else then. Smile

Can I see those early ones? I'm always interested in the history of such stuff.

That creature is pretty interesting, the face kinda gives me that protossy kinda look but otherwise neato.

And to get back on topic, good job for your first try dude. Let's wait and see how far you progress eh? I remember the first time I got into 3d, made a pretty decent office cubicle with everything from the mouse cord, discarded empty pop cans to sheets of paper and pencils strewn about. It's a shame really, it was so long ago I dont even know where the model went, or even what program I used o.0

Well here's round two, credits to mr. Tesla.
I decided to just start with simple stuff just to get familiar with the way everything works -
I've really learned a great deal just on these two models

I haven't figured out yet how to get everything symmetrical - I just eyeballed everything just to get it more or less even in this one..

That's pretty good. Smile

To clone the objects just click it and hold shift and drag. That should make an exact copy of your object. You can define how many copies you want. Smile

aye, I've got the clone thing down, but making the objects equal distant from the center and from each other is the difficult part

also array function. which clones objects and allows you determind how many, what angle and all sorts of other options, also preview!

. Most of the time you have to readjust the pivot point. to a particular area to make it work.

just go to hierarchy panel, under there check Affect Pivot only and you can now move the pivot point using the move tool..or center it. Once you are done, remember to hit the button again to confirm it.
