Anybody who has seen the first three (3) screenshots from the recently announced in-development (since 2005) "Dawn of War 2" from RELIC the creators of Company of heroes will surely wish that the C&C story line should have been the one using that game engine. Alas, it could never and never will be.

take alook at this ingame screenies;

http://pc.ign.com/dor/objects/14243516/warhammer-40000-dawn-of-war-ii/images/warhammer-40000-dawn-of-war-ii-20080404031212030.html

aint those space marines jump-jetting replaced with a zone trooper be a far better game experience?

surely. ESSENCE 3 is a far better RTS game engine compared with even that RED ALERT 3 version of the SAGE.

just a side note;

the modding forums of C&C is so silent nowadays, specially with the realization that KANES WRATH is a pain in the *** when it comes to modding, with so many shortcuts and ways and means painstakingly made by the community members put to waste by the devs with their recent version of the sage? with no thought with regards to those loving efforts?

and, before anybody misreads this post as a flame against EALA, please bear in mind that this is just being put in a constructive essence and focuses more on just wishing on something i'd rather personally see C&C to what have been in the first place, considering the larger coffers of EA compared to RELIC or even THQ.

I fail to see your point. Yes, DoW2 looks nice. No, IMO it can´t be compared to SAGE due to different unit numbers and focus. No, I actually think that the C&C3 engine is by far superior to the older ones when it comes to modding, that is as far as EA´s support goes. Anyways, why this is in CNC3 modding is a riddle to me.

and, before anybody misreads this post not as a flame against EALA, just take a look at the EA forums... anybody up for a quick "Apoc, where´s my SDK?" flash mob?

Though those screens look nice, I agree with Golan on this; DoW2 seems to be a closeup game with quite low unit numbers, while C&C 3 is uh... unit spam. Anyway: What does this have to do with C&C 3 modding?

I'm with you on that Wink.
I can't do anything without knowing wether or not there will be an SDK... I can't work on my mod since I will most likely have to abandon it if there's no SDK (who would play a partial conversion mod when you get more units and features from KW?). On the other hand, I won't just abandon my project and join a total conversion team before I know that all hope is lost.
...I'm so bored, I randomly started modeling an Apocalypse tank Rolling Eyes ...

The PC Gamer article said that they are using the all new RNA engine for RA3. That isn't quite true, altho supposedly 60% of the engines code has been re-written to allow even more visual enhancements. APOC stated at another forum that the screenshots posted so far are using the CnC3 version of SAGE and that over the coming months more shots will be released showing the new features of RNA, admittedly a heavily modified SAGE.

We'll have to wait and see but I don't see those DoW2 images as anything better or worse. The perspective is different as well as the enviroment.

Cheers,

Rebelmoon

The DoW2 graphics are what I originally expected SC2 graphics to be like. But one can only dream...Hey, look at those gfx, they're perfect for a SC game!

I would love that kind of graphics for SC2, however there's a huge difference between both styles of gameplay. DoW2 is aiming for a squad game controlling few units at any moment with RPG elements (what Warcraft 3 was originally meant to be).
However SC2 is aiming for huge battles, and a wider market (not only those with huge mega computers Laughing). So as you can see, you won't have a really high detail SC2 (though final models are expected to be as/more detailed as WoW character models, dunno if this will be truth for Zerg's spamable units).
