Hi.

I want to add new units to Yuri's Revenge, and I mean custom units, made out from bmps.

So how to a make a unit from bmps? I tried Voxel Section Editor, but I am pretty lost Confused I guess they have to be .vxl and .hva, but I don't know how to make them from bmps?

Any help or guides, and I will be very grateful Smile

oh and if anybody doesn't understand what I mean or what me to explain more, then just write Smile

Well as nobody have replied, I guess I have to explain myself alittle more.

I am pretty sure this can be done, this is also a customized unit:

but those are made in vxl from the beginning right? I am thinking about taking units from Starcraft, and I have those in bmps (bitmaps).
In C&C Reloaded the marine and Goliath from Starcraft is "implanted", so I guess that's my prove that it can be done? #Tongue
But the question is: how is it done? Creating a vxl from many bmps, or is it another way round?

Thanks in advance Smile

alright. you need to use XCC utilities to extract the rules.ini/art.ini files. from the .mix files which hold the game's data.

Using a image editing utility Paint shop pro,Photoshop, or GIMP?, etc.

you can convert those SC .bmps into .pcx which then XCC can covert into .shps. 2d sprite file that game uses. The problem is you have make sure the palette is correct. typically you use Paint Shop pro to apply the needed palette or manipulate it in a way your image will display correctly. "unittem.pal" is what you would use for units in a temperate theater.

once you set up the frames in the correct order. units and infantry "vehicles" have a certain facing, clockwise or counter.

you then add this to a new .mix file named ecachexx.mix. XX= a number after the games' own ecache.mix or expand.mix. which holds expansion's mixes.. you don't want to override existing .mixes but you may add in new files if you like.

Now you define your new art and how the game will by modifying the Rules.ini and the art.ini.

To make voxels, you use a 3d program, export the model as a .3ds and use Vipr's 3ds2vxl program.

use the section editor

or bmps. which you would have to paint each "layer." imagine making a sphere by painting in slices.

If you don't have any 3d programs (if you do and you don't know how to use it or it lacks .3ds export ) and you really want to make .vxl units then I suggest you to use VXLSE III. At first it is a bit hard to use but practise makes you a winner (lolwut?). #Tongue

If you see some remap errors or pink colours ingame then you have to edit the .shp manually with OS SHP Builder 3.36 (that's the newest).
