I should be gettin a new comp but it'll have Lindows, but I don't know much about it so I can't really decide, and the reason for ME is, because it is the only operating system I have by itself on a disk, unless 98 SE is stand alone, if so it can be added as a choice to.

I really dont know how Lindows work, but... maybe it can be an interesting option. Try researching more on it, so you may have a Windows with Linux or vice-versa...

98SE is standalone. It's what I use. Lindows is supposed to be pretty good and stable, but you have to pay for a subscription to get software and if you don't have a lifetime membership it will expire... Find more at lindows.com

*shudder*

The early versions of Windows beat ME in shear crappiness. I used Windows 3.1 for several years, but I almost never ran it. I mostly used DOS and a cunning series of batch files and qBasic programs.

I tell you my experience:
I had Win95, Win98, WinME and now I have WinXP Pro. And I say XP is the best solution, it's the only operating system that I never had to re-install. But it has negative sides: I can't run C&C95 and Driver. And it needs about 2GB on your hard drive + faster CPU and more RAM than any other OS, but I say XP.

Xp is a really wierd OS I think, most cases that I use it or family uses it many things tend to screw up, but friends of mine seem to be fine for the post part. I think I'll stick to 98 and see what windows releases next.

Only thing i hate with XP is the compatibility issue due to the non dos.

Hard to run older games on it which is annoying. Mad

I don't like WinXP for two reasons: It looks wierd to me, and it uses too many resources for no apparent gain in functionality. I used WinXP for a week, and I spent the whole time wishing it was Win98.
