Subject description: With a patch from CnCVK, of course.

I currently have two computers at my bedroom with a 64 bits processor, but both uses 32 bits operational systems due to my lazyness. However, there are several users who are using Windows XP 64bits Edition or even Windows Vista with 64 bits.... and, they had problems to run Yuri's Revenge on it.

Fortunatelly, the community acts faster than EA with these problems and there is already a community patch that makes it run flawlessly on these new 64 bits O.S (and I'm one month late, wow!). Here's the info from CnCVK, the author.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
"Win64(x64) Patch for C&C Yuri's Revenge

Installation
Simple copy YR_x64_Patch.exe into YR directory and run it.
Then press "Start".

Patch can be installed on original YR 1.001 and all Rock Patch versions.
Patch can't be installed on YR 1,000 version.
You should install YR 1.001 update.

After patch your CPU speed in YR will be 0 Mhz...
"
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

If you are one of the 64bits O.S. users, head to this topic at Renegade Projects forum to download Yuri's Revenge Win64 (x64) Patch.

hmm interesting, well done to CNCVK again

Sorry to be OT (and this probably deserves another topic) but has anyone tried TS/FS in 64bit, will this require the same fix (CNCVK states over at Renegade forum there was only 3 bytes different between the fixed and vanilla gamemd.exe)

I just want TS to live on into the 64bit generation Razz

TS/FS always ran fine on 64bit. Been running it for almost 2 years now.

I have no errors, too.

However, exist two 64 bit Windows XP versions:
Windows XP x64 Edition (AMD64)
Windows XP 64-Bit edition (IA64)

I tested this patch only with Windows XP x64 Edition Smile

I think they won't do anything with it:(

Hang on, I'm confused. I thought TFD versions of the games were supposed to be updated to run flawlessly on modern operating systems. XP64 or Vista64 don't count as modern OS?!?

Oh, I forgot EA like to lie about everything. Nevermind.

I hate people who dont understand how corporations work. EA doesnt bother updating them because they arent worth updating, honestly, look at TS and RA2, most of the players, the majority of the XWIS/WOL players are tank/titan rusher noobs who are completely content with the game. Majority rules.

And besides, what is the benefit of upgrading this crappy game for them? None. Why should EA waste their time updating these games for the benefit of the minority of the community? Dont get me wrong, I'd love for some patches, but, get serious here, people...

Patching these games would show their clients that they care about their products and, consequently, increase their future sales.

I also think they could use trainees to get patching the old games before bringing them to their main dev teams.

I agree with Banshee, and besides the game is still being printed so why shouldn't it be updated once in a while.

Like I mentioned earlier, TFD was supposed to address the issue of updating these games to run on modern OSs... But from what I can tell the only work that was done (if any) was done on the first two games only...

Banshee, that's not a bad idea. Gives confident/adventurous trainees the chance to dive right into some code if they wanted to =] That would be pretty daunting for the average coder I'd think but some kids might just revel in it...

It would be a good training method as they would not do repairable damage on some major project as they must test all patches before releasing them and there are already half a dozen patches for TS out there allowing for them to quickly restore the game to an earlier version.

ey mensen,

wie kan mij helpen?

Ik heb een pc staan.
AMD athlon 64x2 4400+

In english: I'm trying to help this guy. Plz don't flame him for posting in Dutch Wink
