Subject description: My quick community roundup before I get studying again to the evil university tests.
Reply with quote  Mark this post and the followings unread

Hello everyone! My term in my university is almost over. While I'm taking only 3 subjects this time, I'm doing some of the hardest ones and I'm studying like a freak because of that. Today I had some time to rest, but tomorrow I'll study more and more and more. I hate taking some time to study, but I really need to get graduated. So, I have one or two final tests to do (I'll figure out the correct number tomorrow... maybe).

For this reason, I've been somewhat slow with news posts recently, specially the ones related to the PPM hosted projects. Several of them received updates and some new ones joined us recently. Also, there were some interesting releases outside PPM, such as the 1.1 patch for Vietnam: Glory Obscured, which I still have to talk about it in a proper way. It is a great mod to simply be ignored on any C&C modding related site.

Anyway, let's get to the points that will be covered in this quick roundup:

Kane's Wrath Patch:

While many people are guessing or simply believing on the dates given by APOC, we, true modders know the following: the patch will be done when it is done. It's just like asking when mod X will be released. Pure waste of time and, annoying to those who are working on it. At the moment, they need to fix a bug that was claimed as fixed, send it to QA (which should take 2 days to validate it). Once done, they'll produce the patch on all languages. So, it shouldn't be released before tuesday (friday is independence day in the USA). EA, take your time, but do a proper job. Is it possible?

Mastermind is the new C&C Mod Community Manager:

APOC has recently confirmed in an email that this is one of the roles of my buddy Mastermind in the studio. Here's the deal:

If you hadn’t heard yet, Justin “Mastermind” Moe has recently joined our EALA C&C RTS development team in an official capacity and will be dedicating part of his new role to become your official C&C Community Mod Manager. That’s right, APOC’s Army has now grown to 3 including 2POC and myself and I am finally getting some much needed support. Mastermind is going to be your one-stop-shop for all your modding questions. So please let all your users know of him, his e-mail, and lets make sure all the modders start e-mailing him. Please welcome Mastermind to the EA C&C Community Team. Here is an intro from the Mastermind himself:

Hey guys,

Despite Aaron’s wonderful introduction on the C&C forums, I wanted to take the time to send an e-mail introducing myself to all of you. Aaron was kind enough to agree to send it, since he has all of your contact information, and I don’t yet. Hopefully after this e-mail, that will change.

Aaron has done a wonderful job as community manager, and it’s my great pleasure to help him out with something that I am intimately familiar with, mapping and modding support. In particular, I’m your new go-to guy for mapping and modding questions. Also, if you’ve got a mod, map, or anything related that you want spotlighted, you can send that to me at mastermind@ea.com. If you’re not sure who to e-mail, feel free to send it to me, I will happily send you over to Aaron if it’s something that I can’t help you with.

There are all sorts of things that I’ll be doing as part of my work here as your official map and mod support insider. A few of them are still getting off the ground, but I’ll keep you updated when they are closer to ready to leave the EALA hangar. However, one feature that you’ll be seeing starting very soon is a weekly update that I’ll be doing on the official C&C website, which focuses on mapping, modding, and really anything else that strikes my fancy. One way you can help me out, is if you’ve got an RSS feed, please drop me a link to me at mastermind@ea.com. I don’t always have time to prowl the entire community, having it come to me really helps.

That’s all I’ve got for now, look forward to more cool stuff from me in the future. The easiest and fastest way to get in touch with me is via e-mail, I’ve got a dedicated inbox just for you. Send your mods, maps, and any other cool C&C stuff to mastermind@ea.com. You can also catch me on the official C&C forums and ingame in C&C 3 and Kane’s Wrath as EAMastermind.

I’m looking forward to hearing from you guys, and being able to spotlight all of the neat mods and maps that are one of the great treasures of the C&C Community.

-Mastermind

Weekly modding news or feature on the official C&C website sounds interesting. Let's hope he actually manages to make it happen.

Mike Verdu on Live Support Team

EALA General Manager Mike Verdu has admitted what all of us already knew: EALA post-support is not good. And he is willing to improve it by recruiting a support team, which should be bigger in the next months. If you are really willing to read the long text that I could short with two sentences, go ahead and read it HERE.

In a short note, the money spent with support improves the sales of future games and, therefore, brings more money in a longer term.

CNCNZ Roundtable Discussion

Sonic has published June's roundtable a bit late because the community summit happened in the middle of the month and the first part of the NDA took a while to expire.

This edition counts with some of those who attended the event like Sonic, HeXetic, Wildfire, Chickendippers, Blbpaws, Smurfbizkit and EA APOC (who organized the summit). Interesting read for those who wanna make their own C&C websites to win a free trip to LA in the future. I've been to the first public C&C3 Community Summit and it was an awesome experience, so I know how did they feel there.

Kane's Wrath For 360 and Online Issues

If you visited the XBOX360 C&C forums some days ago, you probably noticed a big horde mad at not being able to play the game online. It was bad, since most of the unique features of the 360 version is for online play. It was actually funny to see several people try to sue EA for false propaganda and other issues, but the server finally got activated two days ago and the problem seems to be over. So, if you own it (RTS on consoles are pure waste of money with no mod support), you can play it online. The other issue is... the patch 1.01 was not applied on the 360 release, which means that it is umballanced to hell and there is a possibility that some of the desync issues with the PC version might happen on it, although I haven't heard of it so far. Is it possible to patch XBOX 360 games? Unfortunately, I'm still stuck with a Nintendo 64 here, which is why I don't know the answer of this question and there is no mentions about patches on both Live Marketplace and Wikipedia. In a bright perspective, the radial interface was approved by many players. I still prefer my god damn good mouse... and sometimes I have fun playing KW with touch screen from my laptop (which runs it quite fast, but it is hard to play with touch screen).

Ya you know this is really quite a problem... I do go to the C&C3 forums, and I agree with every one there 100%. If they give us a date on the when the patch will come out, don't you think they should put out a patch?

Just the fact that the patch was delayed once again! Blows my mind!

Ya we as moders know that it will come out when its done, But! One thing to keep in mind is we as moders try not to set dates that we cant hold, I know this has happened a few times, But we as moders arnt being paid to do this... THEY ARE! So I really think they should have more responsibility in the matter.

Not to mention that in the C&C3 forums people are saying they want APOC fired... I think that's just down right funny!!

360 games can be patched, most do. It happens when you start a game while being connected to Live. It tells you that there is one, and does it. (Or ignors it if there is no updates)

The Dev's set dates (no matter how bogus or how often it doesn't happen on time) because the people whom they answer to require it.

Also deadlines such as a game release date happen thanks to contracts with vendors of said games.

Thats marketing for you though.

Anyways.. Congrats to Mastermind.. Ea bags another one Laughing

The reason they want Apoc fired is because:

A.

I was purely trying to inject some lite humor and sarcasm and unfortunately this turned in to an inaccurate message.

'nuff said. Don't joke about something that's been pissing people off since the first delay.

B. he failed to tell the community about the delay when he found out, which was the night when everyone was frantically F-5-ing the main page for the patch.

I'm gonna have to agree with the people on EA's boards that say apologies aren't enough. To quote a movie, "Talk is cheap, kiss the marble!" (if you don't know which movie, don't bother, I don't think a lot of you have seen it anyway).

And the reason I disagree at firing him is:

A. That doesn't remove his merit of giving life to this community and promoting the game in a proper way (a bit hyped, I know, but he did a good job).

It is just one of his many gaffes.

While I reprove some of his attitudes, I still have a positive feeling about his job, specially when I look at Petroglyph. They have a nice game in their hands (UAW) and barely promote it.

B. The 4th a July date was not given by him. People misunderstood his (epic fail) joke.
