YuriX, the person behind the R3D engine, has made a quick converter that exports vxl files from Tiberian Sun and Red Alert 2 as .obj, allowing you to open them on 3ds max. Here's a little teaser:

Of course that a program like 3dsmax is crucial to use it in games, since you need to reduce the polycount of the result with the optimize tool. Also, few programs did not show up the result of these obj files due to lack of texture while GMAX (with the obj importer plugin) required me to increase the buffer size dedicated to maxscripts to load some models.


In short, do not expect miracles, although it might be interesting to try it out. Find more information about it and download it at THIS TOPIC.

pics are a bit misleading... I remember from the thread that the low-poly model at the end was made around the one made with this program, but without actually keeping anything of it.
