I think he means more variety,more instruments,and maybe rock #Tongue

Tought,in my opinion it doesn't need any of these.

Well, you can add distorted basslines and such, BEFORE you end up in using metal or punk samples(rock is for babies, except when we're talking about progrock).

Look for example to drumnbass... They often use heavily distorted basslines.
