I've been re-checking ArgCmdr's tutorial about shp buildings and also got a new 3D Studio Max and noticed that it could import .SHP files directly to it. If it really worked, it would be a dream, but the fact is that I tried with some TS ones (building and infantry) and it said that the format was not valid. Does anyone knows how to import .shp files properly with 3D Studio Max (Ps: Mine is 4.2)?

i would think that it can't, its shp files will b some other file format, just like the .map has loads of different formats.

The origin of the TS shp files, like the Ra2 shp files IS 3D Studio Max... I just need to know how to put them back there #Tongue...

Quote:
Buildings in RA2 are 3D Studio Max Shape Files (*.SHP) conversions

What it means is how they were made, my mistake on the expression maybe, the format SHP used by westwood is not the same as 3DSs SHaPe files although it shares characteristics, although they can be converted into SHPs in TS compression. Dont ask me how though, as i dont use 3DS, all my work is cut and paste.

For what i know, SHaPe files like WS´s are plain 2D and dont save data as a model but as a series of frames, theres no way to get a SHP into any 3D Editor keeping 3D functions on the image, since it has turned to be, crudely said, a plain bitmap with a special compression and data structure (Format80 if im not mistaken)

most programers take the code for a file type and change it, if u knew the structure of both filetypes your could make a convertor......
